Bringing Up Baby Dragons: A Guide for Beginners (Dr. Ernest Drake's Dragonology)

I almost rated this book 5 stars, but decided on 4 instead for one simple reason: it's a small book (about the size of a normal paperback) and about 32 pages long. If not for the incredibly well-done content I'd call it a "children's book".On production quality and presentation though I give it 5 stars and recommend the purchase. Although it's very short (unsatisfyingly so), the quality of artwork, appearance of the pages (as a thumb-worn well-used manual) and general humor of the book makes it a "must have" for dragon fans.The only real drawback is that the author calls baby dragons "chicks"... which we all know is highly inappropriate. Calling a dragon a "chick" is a good way to get ankle-bit and char-flamed around the lower regions. I know from personal experience that dragons of all ages are highly intelligent (due to inherited genetic memory)... and every baby dragon is of the opinion it's a "big dragon"... regardless of size. It's an attitude thing.Upon reading the book I question whether the author has actually raised dragons or not; a lot of it seems merely works of imagination. But it's creditable imagination so I'll give him credit for creativity. Perhaps a future release of the book will benefit from real-life experience and some actual photos instead of hand-drawn sketches and assumptions. One would think he'd have consulted with dragon professionals such as myself to find out more about the actual creatures. I can tell you this: never play poker with one if you wish to retain the contents of your wallet. They're skilled bluffers.

I purchased this cute little book to go along with another item I purchased: Kelkay 4903 Baby on Ball Green Dragon Statue as part of a gift for my mother. The little Kelkay dragon on his egg looks like an almost exact replica of the little dragon on the cover that my mother thought it was an actual set that went together.It's a very short little book (it's about the size of the average woman's hand -- wrist to finger tip), more like a "How-to" manual, really. You can read through it, cover to cover, in about 15-20 minutes, taking in all the little details and writings in the corners.The book is also a "soft" hardcover, so try not to put pressure on it with anything hard or sharp, like finger nails or used it as a firm surface when writing a note, it will leave the impressions behind.

Its a cute book about how to raise dragons from a "professional" dragonologist point of view. The book isn't big, but it is a nice gift for any dragon fan.

Amazing book! I know all of you nonbelievers out there just think this is just a book that has no REAL purpose, but it was actually very helpful! It came from a seller who I believe actually had a dragon due to the small bite and scratch marks. I have BELIFE!!!!!

My son is 8 years old and very interested in dragons, etc. Great little book for a child's curiousity. Note however, it is a rather quick readf, especially for a kid who loves to read. He read it in an evening (within 3-4 hours), so if you are looking for something with extra activities, then this is not the book for you. It has well illustrated artwork and has that vintage print. I will put some pics up of some of the pages later. The book is small, not as large as the OLOGIES series books with pop-ups and extra items in it.

What every dragon lover needs to know to care for a dragon from egg to adulthood. The apprentices begin their adventures caring for an egg and as any one who has raised children knows that is just the beginning of the fun.

I wanted this for my grandaughters collection and could not find it new ( I wonder if they are out of print). I ordered from the seller a good used copy and my daughter said it was great and she loved it. Would buy from again

Love this book. Been reading this series together with my nephew and this is one of our favorites. It complementes the "large" dragonbook without seeming repetitive.

It was written well but didn't give a lot of information as to where to locate baby dragons! Although it did mention how difficult it is to keep them for any length of time and keep them fed and happy.

A cute little book that teaches you all the dragon rearing essentials.

This book is little so perfect for small hands. It makes a great companion to the other Dragonology books! My boys ages 4 and 6 read it over and over.

My 6 year old loves this book - and the beautiful illustrations make it something he returns to look at many times. The book size is small and appeals to children. Makes a nice gift for dragon lovers.

This book was very cute. My 4 year old daughter is in love with dragons right now. She likes the book, but it's a little above her age range.
