Good mainly as a travel guide
As a large directory of mounds in the Ohio Vally region, this book is good. It lists many lesser known mounds that have no mentions online, and gives fair (sometimes) directions on how to get there. This book is not as comprehensive as it claims to be, and mainly relies on the Squire Davis survey and old newspaper articles the author could find in his local library (albeit his local library is Ft. Wayne). If you're an ancient earthworks enthusiast, I'd pick this up.

Great Read
As a top researcher in the field of Spiritual end days I found this book to be very well written. All though I have had this information for a very long time it't truly encouraging to see others come online. The world is finally waking up

visit the mounds
This is an excellent presentation of the extensive system of ancient woodland amerindian earthworks in the Ohio Valley. Their presence is unknown to the majority of the people in the United States which is a sad comment on our educational system and santized version of US history. The book documents the presence, layout, and significance of many earthworks, i.e. mounds. It is a remarkable presentation and the author should be congradulated for his diligence and for bringing attention to these rapidly disappearing monuments. The maps and locations are accurately documented and can be easily found by any interested person. I hope that this book will raise interest and pride in our history and will promote the preservation of these rare artifacts.

A great aid to locate ancient sites.
I've visited a couple well known tourist type mounds years ago in Ohio. I am most thankful that Fritz organized the many sites in the greater Ohio Valley and published this guide book. The mystery of where to view the many sites has been solved for me with this book of clear directions. This is a great book to find these many sites. Finding the sites enables one to use the site for other research into related studies of the subject. I bought the book, then bought a second one to give to my son who lives in that area. How great it is that Fritz researched and spent many years of work locating mounds and ancient civilization sites. Anyone with an interest in this subject will need this travel guide.

even though the connection of the Hopewell to the Sioux is tenous at best, they were more related to the northern tribes ...
For a book that locates many mound sites, the 'Travel Guide' part of the book, it is ok. The assumptions the author makes on the builders of these mounds border on the ridiculous. I have read hundreds of archaeological papers, books, reports on the peoples of this area, not once is the word ALLEGEWI used! Also the author refers to 'Hopewell-Sioux' many many times, even though the connection of the Hopewell to the Sioux is tenous at best, they were more related to the northern tribes than the Sioux (mDNA studies from many of these sites.) Take this book with a grain of salt, I will leave this book on the shelf, but it's usefullness remains in the 'atlas' part of it.

This book is amazing....
I was hoping for a history book, and I got it!! This is an amazing read. Background info researched thoroughly, no slant, just the facts. Accounts validated by newsprint articles, no wild imaginings, just straightforward presentation on the earthworks that dot our area of the country in the Midwest. I strongly recommend this book if you're looking into Native American material or anything pertaining to the mound builders, no matter your inclination. Why not have everything available on the subject, right? ^_^

Best used as a travel guide.
A good source of locations of archaic sites. Otherwise it is just a rehash of information that can be found on the internet. Riddled with spelling errors. Editing was not high on the author’s list of priorities. This leads me to question the accuracy of the information provided. This author draws heavily from another author, both in the way of quotations and photographs.
