Remove the inner plastic ring before you do that part! The collar needs to be re-inflated once a week (as all inflatable things do), so keep the pump. Otherwise, this worked great on my 12 pound rat terrier after she had knee surgery. She was unable to bend enough to lick the stitches out of her leg, so I am very pleased with the product. She also was very comfortable sleeping in it, it was basically a wearable pillow for her. Note: If you do poke a hole in the inner plastic tube, you can patch it with a peice of duct tape. Just keep an eye on it. PS: My dog looked ADORABLE in her collar!
