I received it in good condition. It it truly a piece of CRAP. I have already tossed it in the trash and started looking for the real thing. A real one will cost a lot more, but at least I will have one.

Scratch stocks are a traditional craftsmans' way of beading and fluting wood and creating other profiles. They're not as fast and clean as molding planes, but they're a lot simpler to make, requiring only a few files and a stone. Ron Hock, who is is well known for his plane blades, has put together a simple, elegant tool that comes complete with a basic beading cutter and a spare piece of steel for the owner to make their own custom cutter. While you can make your own from scratch, this kit is simple, inexpensive, and well thought out. Scratch stocks do have one downside compared to molding planes: They don't work all that well in softwood, where they tend to dig in and tear. There, you're better off with a molding plane. But in hardwood this tool will produce a sharp, well-defined profile.

It is basic in design but does the job well. It comes with two metal blanks. One has a round profile. You could create 8 profiles by using the 4 corners on each blank.
