Thus far hasn't lived up to my reason for its purchase -- but is a great unit regardless...
****UpdateThe unit did finally end up working correctly, albeit after weeks of research on their forums, troubleshooting, and working on a solution for literally hours at a time, non-stop. I am pretty tech savvy, and yet it was still an almost overwhelming task ...and I almost wouldn't consider it worth it. However, having it working now, I'm pretty happy. I still get occasional pauses, but they are fairly minimal. The solution ended up being a combination of things, and some related to my NAS (Drobo 5N). The 5N does not support NFS sharing by default, and a "Drobo App" had to be installed in order for it to run. This was a bit of a pain to figure out, since my old Boxee Box streamed everything with or without it...and and the Boxee only had a 100Bb/s ethernet port on it. Silly that the 1Gb port on the Mede8er couldn't do the same. There are honestly a number of other settings I had to adjust, but I did this a while back and am hoping I never have to touch it again. I would suggest, if someone has trouble, to visit their forum...my thread can likely be found on there where I outline all my steps & resolution.People were mixed in how helpful they were on there...some helpful, some very arrogantly throwing out things that had nothing to do with the issue whatsoever. The Mede8er is a very nice unit, but it appears obvious that it can be very picky...so just keep that in mind. Our options are much more limited here in the US in regards to home media streaming (not 'online streaming' like netflix), whereas in other countries the Mede8er is also accompanied by options like the Popcorn Time units (may be spelled differently) and a number of others. Thus, sometimes having to struggle through the tech glitches becomes necessary.****I have had a Boxee Box for years now, and have loved it the entire time. However, with lossless audio codecs like TrueHD and Master-Audio the Boxee Box has a knowing glitch of occasionally dropping audio for a few seconds -- which has never been resolved. And, with the company being purchased by Samsung, it never will be.With the above being the case, I set out to find a new media player that would accommodate all my needs…which are as follows:1) can handle MKV format videos2) can handle lossless audio codecs3) has gigabit ethernet capabilities to handle large amounts of data4) has a nice user-interface that can scrape movie information and organize it.5) has a nice and easy to use remote.I am actually not too overly interested in online streaming capabilities, so that is not something I really worried about or will be reviewing here.I'm pulling all of my movies and media off of a Drobo 5N, which is a NAS device. You can, however, store all the media on hard drive or two and directly connect them to this unit and play it directly, if you are so inclined. You can even set up to the unit to share its media with other devices in your home...which could be a great feature for many. The unit has thus far played all the codecs and media I have thrown at it.It has, however, stuttered when playing back larger movies. I am researching what may be the issue, and I'm hoping it is not the unit itself. I have some other network switches in between my NAS and this unit…and have read this could potentially be an issue. If this turns out to be the case, I'll return an update this review to reflect my findings. Considering, however, that the Boxee Box played back everything flawlessly [aside from the slight dropouts in audio], I'm not sure why this unit would have issues. It would seem that if the buffer could be upped on the unit then the problem will be solved, but as of this point in time I've been unable to locate a specific setting to adjust that.Sadly, I do not find the UI to be as pleasing as the Boxee Box...which is a shame. It is, however, more responsive. The remote is kind of a tossup, as the Boxee had an RF based on that didn't need line-of-sight (and was very simple), whereas this one has back-illumination (button activated) and is IR-based.Overall I am pleased with the device, but to be honest…it does not solve the problem I bought it for; my movies still stutter, just in a different way this time around.

Well I have this device, movies don't stutter at all, even my 3D rips which have a higher bit rate play seamlessly.
