Installation keeps my husband off of the ladder which makes me happy.

The right clip for my pole

Let me preface this by saying, i never review products and that I buy from amazon all the time, and also that I totally rely on these reviews before purchasing anything. I know that this sounds really bad, w/ the whole 'using and not contributing' but this review gets a little worse. I actually didn't even buy this from amazon, I got it at target. I mainly purchased this because my 3 yr old guilted me into putting up lights because he loves them, so I grabbed this item with the expectation of having to return it in the very near future.So my home lacks rain gutters at the moment and the pkg said this product works with shingle installations, so that's the only reasoning behind me selecting this product over others on the aisle in target. When I brought the product home I tried to look it up on YouTube, product reviews, articles on installation...anything! I kept coming up empty; and what I did find wasn't promising, until I read a review that basically said; follow the instructions and everything will work out, so I rolled the dice and went with it.I actually bought this box of extra clips as well as the telescoping stick that installs the clips, so let me speak to the stick real quick.Stick felt solid at first. The mechanism that keeps it from collapsing into itself once extended needs work, it kept on sliding back into itself when I extended it further out. Having to adjust the pole constantly got annoying after a while, so I duct taped the stick to my desired length and it worked like a charm. The mechanism that detaches the clips into the shingle worked flawlessly the whole time, i actually wd40'd it before using it, you never know where these seasonal items have been all year and if moisture could have been present. Anyway despite having to come up with a hack to make this work, a la duct tape, 5 stars!Onto the clips!These little plastic guys work amazing! they click in effortlessly into the extender pole and slip easily between your shingle and that metal molding where your fascia board meets the shingle. The grip is outstanding, very surprised at how well they stay put, directions said to place them 18-24 inches apart, so I did and they held up extremely well, even when I had to drop a heavy line of xmas lights to adjust my positioning.Overall very happy with the outcome. Lights are up, I didn't need a ladder, didn't need any staples, and once I got the hang of it, I flew through the whole process. I probably knocked the whole xmas light installation out in 25-30 mins, w/ no help, as it wasn't even necessary.I mainly took the time to write this review to let you know that this product works and works really, really well. I didn't see much positivitygoing it's way and I thought I could use some. This was by far the easiest xmas light install I have ever experienced. If you follow the instructions you should have no problems. Again this was a shingle install, don't ask me about gutter installs as I wouldn't know.I also don't know anything about clip removal, I guess ill find out after xmas.Good luck w/ your xmas lights install and happy holidaysI promise to start reviewing more of my purchases in the near future..

Not sure why people are having a hard time with this product. It’s easy to use. Maybe they’re idiots? clip it on the pole and detach to the house eazy peezy

First off. When I ordered these, the picture of the product was the original style poll clip that you thread onto the end of the poll. What arrived was the new version that clips on the poll. I was pretty ticked when they arrived because I had to go buy the new poll just to use the new version of clips. They do hold the wire nice and tight, better than the previous version. However you have to attach the clip to the wire before you put the clip on your house. It is such a tight fit you wouldn’t be able to get the wire in the slot from a distance while using the poll. Because you have to attach the wire to the clip before hanging the clip, I found it impossible to feed the clip onto the end of the poll without holding the clip in my hand. So whatever distance you are from the top of your house will be the spacing between clips you will have. Where I used my old clips my spacing is 12in or less for a no sag look with peaks and all. Where I have the new clips they are greater than a 1 1/2 feet apart on the lower areas and six feet apart on the peaks. I could remedy that by climbing a ladder and attaching the clips by hand, but then what would be the purpose of using a no ladder clip? Further more, the pole I had to go out and buy to use these clips bent when extended. My old style poll never bent but it is a thicker and heavier metal than the new ones.

Long gutter portion breaks off too easily. Difficult to release from mounting pole.
