This is awesome! My husband and I live in Ketchikan,AK and do a lot of fishing on our boat. Last year we caught several halibut over 80 - 90 lbs. This is excellent in weight and could easily double as a bonker. We were concerned about the length but after getting it we found that the way it is made it is super easy to grab it up the handle a bit. Only thing missing is a leather strap threaded through the handle as a safety feature just in case you get to excited and it slips or you throw it because you lost one! By far the best one out there on the market for fishing in Alaska waters.

traditional gaffs with rounded hooks can be troublesome with flat fish. These are a simple and effective solution, swing, sling, and dispatch.3 stars because they are a bit short for higher gunnel lengths or reaching out, a louisville slugger with a 10" nail would do the same thing with a better reach. Also have a lacquered finish that gets slippery when wet or slimy.

Well made and functional. perfect weight and balance. I have used other gaffs in this price range and this one is definitely a cut above all the rest.

My experience is fishing for halibut, salmon and rock fish and I've seen this gaff in action. Works great. It is a high quality, sturdy product.
