If I Built a House (If I Built Series) Hardcover – Picture Book, October 25, 2012

We love the entire If I Built A... series, and my son now has all three books in the collection. The creative storytelling keeps kids engaged, and helps them think about what they might do if they could build a dream house/car/school. The pictures are full of detail. It is a book that you can read over and over again.

My son and I have been having so much fun discussing the rooms we would have in OUR house after reading this book! It's a nightly conversation now and has been a great stepping stone to discussing imagination vs reality, design, and dreaming big. Really fun book.

If I could give this book 10 stars I would. The story is an easy, pleasant rhyming style that makes you want to read it over and over. The illustrations are stunning and the story about this little boy's creative dream of a house is so FUN!! It is a perfect read for a 6 yr old on up. Our 6 1/2 yr old ( who is a hard sell on books) LOVES this book and is fascinated with the retro art style Chris Van Dusen uses. He doesn't overdo it, just enough to make this generation ask questions about the pictures! Every household and library should have this book in it. You will love everything about this book

While this book may not have the cadence of the first one, it is still a good one. I Want to meet this kid! Very imaginative, beautiful pictures. Bought it for my 6year old. He loves it!

We love this 3 book series. So creative and so fun to read for me and my 4 year old son.

I think I love this book more than my kids do. But that’s saying something because my son practically wants to live in this story. Just excellent. Buy it. You won’t regret it.

Chris Van Dusen has a way with the rhythm to his rhyming in the vein of a Dr. Seuss book and others very talented and successful authors, another of his books "If I Built A Car" is an excellent examples.Written very well in the tradition of his other books," If I built a House" is for kids with large imaginations.Jack is using his vast imagination to design an outrageous house built for him, a child, that he himself has designed. The illustrations, which are first rate, then are drawn just as he designed, which are quite unique.A fun book to read and for children to see his actual design and ideas come to life.Chris Van Dusen is very successful in creating this excellent book, and the illustrations are an integral part in the story.

I bought a few books for my 4 year old niece for her birthday and this one was by far her favorite. The illustrations are detailed and fun, and the story is whimsical–with a "Dr.Seuss" kind of feel in the way it rhymes and flows. It's a book that can help inspire creativity, and as I've been told, has been read MANY times over in her household.

Similar review as for the If I built a car book. This author is fabulous. We love both car & home stories. I feel like this book in particular is going to inspire a future architect.This is a go to book for me to give to a birthday child of age 4. It’s fairly text heavy for a 3 year old, so in my opinion they might not sit through it every time. The language is fantastic & it is so creative. A great STEM book & So great for building vocabulary beyond what they typically hear (at least I don’t talk with such descriptive language!)I don’t have a grasp on the upper age this might appeal to. I started reading it to my son at age 3 & it was a favourite then. I suspect it will be read on repeat for quite some time.

Very fun and creative book.

We love love loved this author's 'if I built a car' book. I brought this just because of that. This book is also extremely imaginative and nice to read. But I personally love the car book more. But this is good too actually. Its a similar pattern though.Definitely recommend for budding engineers with fabulous imagination. 👌
