Highly Recommended
Very detailed, well sourced history of the Wailers as a group and in the context of Jamaican music as the genre developed into what we know as reggae. Also delves into the group’s fraught financial history which is probably worthy of another book entirely.

If your looking for a deeper journey into Jamaican Music ...
If your looking for a deeper journey into Jamaican Music beyond Bob Marley this is a crucial read. The Barrett Brothers played with heaps of reggae artist aside from Bob Marley and were very instrumental in shaping the early reggae scene.

It's about the music
This book has most extensive information from Aston "Family Man" Barrett, it pretty much is his biography from that era. This is a must read for any fan of the Wailers, meaning everyone that came and went, the big and small players. It has a wealth of insight to the music scene in Jamaica and the other reggae artists who were making music at that time. Not for someone who is just into Marley... As this is a story about the music and the people who made it.

Sorta Good
Though this book covers an interesting period of Reggae music history and provides some insight into the creative process, it has one major flaw - There is NO index. This makes it unusable after reading it when trying to cross-reference info from other sources. There's lots of good info and insight but unless you have a photographic memory, it will rarely come out of your library after the first read. Maybe we'll get lucky and the paperback version (ha!) will come with an index. Shame on Omnibus Press for shoddy work.

Important book, as Marleys musicians tell their story. ...
Marley's musicians tell their story. Aston Barrett will mostly have the word, but also Al Anderson, Junior Marvin, Tyrone Downie, Earl Lindo, Alvin Patterson and Marcia Griffiths (harmony vocals) contributes. If you did not know you will learn about drummer Carlton Barrets and Peter Tosh tragic deaths.

Could have been much better.
A good book that could've been better. Some glaring errors with names of artists and dates of recordings often wrong and it tends to concentrate way too much on the Barretts with just brief glimpses into the lives of the other members of the Wailers band.

Wailing blues
A fantastic book. This has the depth I was looking for in this type of autobiographical. This is no fairy tale or a glossed over account, but simply the best and most complete book I have read about the subject matter.
