It's straightforward and simple -- when my phone enters the vehicle, it automatically connects with a *not annoying* beep and makes no other sounds once connected. The USB receiver end is in an enclosed center console and it doesn't affect the sound quality or connection ability at all. Based on other reviews, I purchased an inline thingy at the same time to reduce humming but it is not needed in my case -- It actually drastically reduced the sound quality so I won't be using it. I don't notice any background humming anyway.I can't comment on the microphone/phone quality because I don't need or use it for that.I like this set up better than when I had an integrated bt stereo in a previous car -- constantly fiddling with the phone to get it to connect. This works great, it works instantly after it being set up, the wire is out of the way (at least in my 2012 civic), it connects instantly, and sounds good.There is a very very slight buzzing / humming, but you can only hear it when there is no music playing and you aren't driving, so it doesn't impact my review at all. Plugged it in, punched in code, and it works!Two reasons for 4 stars:One, the way the car is laid out (‘09 Scion xB), the power socket is under a chunk of dashboard for the shifter, which kills the ability to use the product for a microphone, andTwo, whenever I choose a song to play (iPhone SE), there’s a “click” that cuts off just that much of the beginning of the song.Other than these issues, it works as advertised.
