Advertised as ultrathin, the NYHK Folio Shield is made up of a soft microfiber leather cover with the distinctive street-map design and tough plastic interior that holds the tablet firmly in place even when standing. Perhaps LionCase is appealing to the cosmopolites with its NYHK line of tablet cases - the acronym stands for "New York Hong Kong" - but any iPad 2 and New iPad 3/4 owner is sure to enjoy the well-constructed, Smart Cover-like folio shield . The case comes with embedded magnets that sleep/wake the iPad when the cover is closed/opened. In terms of protection, the fantastic microfiber leather cover of this tablet folio case already gets high marks for defense against everyday wear and tear. The exterior belies a flexible plastic back shell that never lets go of the iPad when in place. All cutouts are perfectly designed for Apple's tablets and overall, the NYHK Folio makes a sleek package to cradle the iPad. It's also admirably low weight as well at 240 grams (around 8 ounces). The sole notable (and minor) drawback in the NYHK Folio Shield case is the folding stand feature . While the iPad can be comfortably positioned on the unfolded cover for many face-view angles, the folded cover (folds just like a tablet smart cover) used for the typing angle lacks embedded magnets to keep the cover from unwrapping. The stand provides decent support, but it can come apart without much difficulty - truly for use only on stable surfaces.
