This unit only tells you when there is voltage in a line. You clamp the meter around a wire you are wanting to find a circuit breaker for and then go to the panel and start turning breakers off until the indicator shows the voltage has been shut off. I am sure this works well in that circumstance but is completely useless for me given that i cannot just start shutting off circuit breakers until i get lucky. I will be returning this product and buying a plug in circuit breaker identifier that actually sends a signal through the wire to be detected at the panel without shutting breakers off. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good tool but wrong choice for me... I think. *by O***E on Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2013* I bought the Extech RT30 with the expectation that I could trace circuit runs in the attic regardless of knowing which breaker fed it but I couldn't figure out how to accomplish that with this tool so I returned it and got a tone generator style which worked perfectly. Just had to disconnect cable from breaker, attach tone generator to the cable ends and easily followed the run in the attic from one box to the next till I found the problem. Turned out not to be in the attic at all but in an outside outlet that was disturbed when house was re-sided. Anyway, I did like the quality of the Extech and for matching circuits to breakers it works great.
