Informative and well written
My wife was making piles of my son's books to give away now that he's 16, and I saw this one and picked it up. Two paragraphs in and I was hooked. I sat at our kitchen table and read the whole thing (it's not that long--took me about an hour, I'd guess). Yes, this is a book that a middle-schooler can read, but it's not dumbed down at all, and the quality of the writing is excellent--I was not surprised to learn that the author is also a published novelist (and went to Harvard). I was expecting this to read like work for hire (which I'm sure it was) but instead, I found a gripping, lean narrative about Napoleon that gave me a good sense of the contours and high points of his life and career. Seriously, this thing is a page-turner. Hats off to Ms. Heuston. We're still giving the book away; I hope its next owner reads it and enjoys it as much as I did.

Good History
My kids and I read this for our homeschooling. I enjoyed getting more knowledge about Napoleon. Not a boring book!

A bit too rosy about the French Revolution
Like most of this series, this book is a good way to introduce children to historical characters. However, the author paints a bit too rosy a picture of the French Revolution. "Liberty, equality, fraternity" is a nice propaganda slogan, but the author seems to treat it almost as a literal description of the Revolution.
