Must be used inside the filter
A sign on the lightbulb says that the light needs to be used on the inside of the filter. My filter is sealed, so I couldn't do that. So, I got an angled PVC pipe and put the light inside it. The upper right of the picture shows that the intake into the filter is pulling from one side of the pipe, so all the water must be pulled past the lightbulb before being sucked into the filter. This has kept the tank clean despite the heat lamp and the uneaten turtle food that would create a green mess without the UL light.The sign on the light also says one should avoid contact with UV light. Inside the PVC pipe, everyone including the turtle are protected from the light, but it does create a nice glow inside tank.It should be made more clear that you can't just stick this into your tank. But, it is possible to make this work.

Worked great for me
So I read the few reviews that were available on this item and were very mixed. For the price I decided I would try it. For myself I put this in the overflow of a JBJ 28. I had an algae bloom and this product cleared it about 75% within 24 hours and by 48 hours the tank water was clear. I ran the sterilizer for about 20 hours over the 48 hour period. (daytime hours) My personal experience is it worked great for me.

Great buy,would purchase again for other tanks
Very good and at a great price,works well.I used it on the top of the filter.Took a colored bottle and made a small cut the length of the bottle,ran the cord thru , now it has a cover. Perfect

It cleared the tank in 24 hours.
This small light packs a big punch. I used this light in my 60 gallon reef tank. It was placed in the overflow box and just after 24 hours I noticed a big difference, the water was so much clear. I wouldn't use this light continuously since it will break down PVC and silicone if directly exposed to it. I will probably have to place it in a hang on back filter away from any silicone or PVC plumbing when I use it again.

Absolute Garbage
the light never turned on then there is an ungodly smell and smoke,worried about fireVery disappointing and wouldn’t recommend

Don’t run alll day or have where fish can see the light, must be out of sight of humans and fish.
3 days running for 2 hours a day and my tank went from cloudy to clear. I did water changes, changed bio filters and nothing helped. Was able to easily set it up in the filter portion of tank next to my heater.
