Great resource for study material and on-the-job reference.
So having just passed both the 220-901 and 220-902 exams today I feel I should write a review of this textbook as study material. My background is currently an Bachelors in IT from a fully online institution with no real industry experience. When i say no real industry experience i mean that i do not work within the IT industry nor have i ever. IT has always been an interest of mine since i was a child yet never went deep into learning much of what this textbook covers. My method of study i chose to read this textbook cover to cover, taking all practice tests at the end of each chapter, along with the included practice exams on the disc. In addition to this text i went further to find online practice exams and Professor Messer videos on Youtube as free self studying material. This textbook, as stated, works perfect for self studying in passing the exam and would make a great reference for any IT support technician toolkit as the on-the-job reference. The material covered everything included within the stated objectives CompTIA provides on their website. The practice tests at the end of each chapter included 10 questions with answer keys. The disc included helped me very little. I took maybe one practice test for each exam and that was all that was included within the disc. Some videos were included but no where near helpful as Professor Messers videos. The book covered the objectives and even went beyond which is why this makes a great on-the-job reference. I was able to finish reading cover to cover within a month. I then crammed the 901 objectives ( which were highlighted throughout the book by the author ) then sat for the exam. A week later i sat for the 902 and within that week crammed all the 902 objectives ( which were also highlighted throughout the book ). Good luck!

Excellent exam guide! Passed the 901.
Excellent exam guide. I passed the 901 and I'm going to schedule the 902 once my summer schedule settles down. This book is the only resource I used to pass the 901 and I only did a single pass through the book. If you have some experience building your own PC's, tinkering with tech, or anything else similar, this book is likely the only companion resource you need for the exam. Although I did run through the entire book before taking the 901 exam, I would recommend splitting the content where it makes sense between 901 and 902. Prep for the 901, take the 901 exam, and then repeat for the 902. Otherwise, it's a lot of material to digest if you aren't familiar with a big chunk of the concepts already.

while I was technically savvy with a good range of subjects in this book
Extremely well written, I have never found a 1000+ page book as captivating and as engaging as this. In addition, while I was technically savvy with a good range of subjects in this book, there were some subjects I had no knowledge of. The explanations on these subjects help you understand what at the very core is going on before getting you up to speed. I also incredibly appreciate the added addition of the "Beyond the A+" sections, that address some of the more important developments in the industry and the outdated elements on the test to what you'll actually be doing.I would recommend this book to anyone trying to get into the industry, the extra time spent going through page by page really helps you know what you're doing instead of others who just study to pass the test.

Must have!
I just received my copy of both this book and Mike Meyers book on Network+ and his UDemy courses on both subjects....I am completely geeen in the computer tech department other then your average iPhone owner type individual. I've always been a gizmo gadget lovin nerd with a love of tech and amazing capabilities that it brings to our lives. It is my dream to learn and become a Network Engineer and specialize specifically in the security aspects of things and everyone that I express this to just gets this glazed over look like ummm ok...lol I love how technology can bring people from around the world together and understanding how it is done just takes that appreciation to the next level. This is the first step in this journey and from what I've started reading and in taking Mr. Meyers courses I have no doubt that this time next year I will not only be certified but neck deep in this world. Meyers speaks and teaches his students and breaks the most technologically crazy stuff down in such a way that you don't feel completely out of your depth and gives it to you straight without all the fluff and mumbo-jumbo. He tells you right away in the beginning of the book that no one should pay full price to take this certification exam. I truly get the sense that he more than anything wants those he is trying to teach to succeed I couldn't be more thankful to have come across all of his invaluable information, courses and books thank you Mr. Myers!! Once I've dove a little deeper into his book I'll update with any other useful tidbits. Good luck to all of you wherever your journey may lead! :)

If you choose just one book to study for the 220-901/220-902 A+ Exams, this is the one to choose.
This is one of the most complete and comprehensive texts for the CompTIA A+ Certification. It comes with a CD that includes the entire book as a PDF file as well as practice tests and links to online practice tests and scenarios you will likely run into while taking the actual exam. While none of the text books I have used to help train students for the A+ Exam are perfect, this is an outstanding choice. The fact that it comes with a hard-cover, lots and lots of illustrations, labs and practice questions for a very low price makes it my #1 choice.

Great read for what I read
Though I did not complete the corresponding exam for this book, the text that I read was very readable and progressed very logically in and out of depth for the various chapters. It didn't necessarily hold your hand in some spots and provoked me to think, which I suppose is more effective at times. It's a very thick book. But if you look at the requirements for passing the exams, you understand quite well why it is such. This book has easy readability and provides details to difficult concepts, and in addition there are accompanying resources to help you overcome the two joint exams to earn your certification. Good luck.

Great quality writing, not as dense as people make out.
This is not a book you read cover to cover, it's a reference book that goes alongside your studies/work. If you are trying to read this cover to cover, you will feel it's a lot to get through or that the author waffles. Using this as a reference book alongside my online A+ studies, I have found the defitions and chapters to be very succint and informative, better than my online materials! Excellent study book, very clear print with quality paper, generous margins, and it looks lovely too.The fact this book actually manages to cram everything from total beginner to advanced is in fact an impressive feat more than a downside!

Good and understandable book, but exam voucher has expired...
The book is good for absolute beginners and for someone who wants to consolidate their knowledge about hardware, software and networks essentials in details and to understand all that even better and of course to take exam and get their certificate. The book has a lot of explanations, examples, and is written in good understandable way.In my opinion a bit bad side of the book is that it is in black and white. If the pictures would be in colour it would be even more better and clearer for the beginners to see what they need to look for and what looks how in real life. The other thing is that the exam discount code has expired, and it clearly says that it is valid until December 31, 2017, and i can see that i'm not the only one with this problem.

Wish I'd bought this a year ago.
Although the book gives more information than needed for the A+, it does it in a way that fills out the narrative so that you get a better understanding of the topic. Rather than just hit you with a bunch of facts to learn. There are a few times when you feel 'well that escalated quickly', like around chapter 12 where you go from this is a keyboard, a mouse, a hard drive to suddenly setting permissions and learning command lines.I think this is because of what's on the A+ rather than how the author would write it if he was writing a straight guide to computers. All in all, the book keeps being interesting when read front to back on first read through. And has enough notes and tips that you can take more interest in and take your own notes on for subsequent readings.I wish I'd bought this book a year ago instead of 4 weeks ago as my exam is in a few weeks so am cramming it a bit.

Use "lock down" to learn new skills.
Preparing to update my IT skills, in order to fully enjoy my hobby of upgrading gaming PCs and with a view to re entering the IT industry (albeit at a low level), have decided to invest in Mr Meyers' offering, as I like his easy, yet informative delivery of what can be a complex subject, along with study tips, demystifying the process.Once I have gained 90% proficiency with this edition, I will then buy the latest edition, then using that as a final review will book and sit the Exams.Highly recommended.
