Color Photos on nearly every page!
I'm the mother of a 10 year old boy who loves and cares for his pet vinegroons. His father purchased this book for his daily 20 minutes of reading homework. While much of the text is too advanced for him, the book is wealth of knowledge and information. My son has poured over all 131 pages carefully examining the photos and reading some of the text. As I do not see a "look within" feature for this book, here is some more information:The Table of Contents of the book shows there are 6 chapters:1. Other Whips and Scorpions2. Biology and Morphology3. Reproduction4. Habitats and Captive Concerns5. Prey and Feeding6. Discussion of Select SpeciesThere is also an Intro, glossary, and bibliographyHere a random excerpt from the book to show the type of reading required in case you have a young vinegaroon enthusiast in your life:"Palps" Pg. 36: The pedipalps are thick and sturdy and built for burrowing and catching prey. The give the Whipscorpions their characteristic look and can be sexually dimorphic. When not in use they articulate inward and look almost like boxing gloves. Palps rest and operate almost entirely within a horizonal plane, unlike those of schizomids, which rest in the vertical, or spiders and amblypygids that function in both vertical and horizontal planes... This conversation of form may result from whipscorpions all being burrowing species."

Amazing Book Which is Nonexistent Elsewhere
This is a rare pet. You could potentially be the only one at work with a pet like this. Even more rare is a comprehensive book on the Vinegaroons. I was so surprised that this existed. Thought I would only find a chapter within a Scorpion encyclopedia. So glad the entire volume is primarily devoted to the Vinegaroon, with just a couple of pages devoted to the regular scorpions, sun spiders, etc.. Just awesome!

Very informative book
I am a big fan of this group of animals. I remember seeing them in pet shops as a kid and wondering where they came from and how to take care of them. There was very little information on them at that time. This is a great book for anyone that is interested in this group of animals. It covers the ones you are most likely to find in the pet trade as well as our native species. It gives the reader a good idea on how best to care for these unique animals, with suggestions on sub straights, temperature ranges and even breeding. Defiantly a book should be added to anyone's book library that is interested keeping these interesting and unique group of animals.

So good my wife & I bought this for each other for Christmas
Yet another outstanding book from McMonigle. Unfortunately, it’s so good that my wife & I gave each other this same book for Christmas. FYI, we recently acquired a vinegaroon (yes, he’s called Vinnie), & he is way cool.

Bon livre
