Very functional as bases so long as you're okay with flat bases. my sons and i have definitely put them to good use. The problem is not in their utility as bases, but in carrying them back and forth. the cardboard box that they come in is not durable enough to carry the weight of the bases, so sooner or later you'll either be carrying the bases in your arms or you have to put them in some kind of bag. trying to carry four flat objects is easy if that's all you're carrying, but if you're trying to carry them under one arm while carrying something else in your hands--a common problem if you're going to the park with your child--then it can be inconvenient, especially because of the shape & size combo of the bases/home plate. on the other hand, if you're setting up bases in your backyard and don't have to move them, this will not be a problem for you. the bases don't really bend so putting them in a sports bag is not so easy either. again, these are actually quite nice as bases. just be aware that they are not super convenient to carry around. My son uses them for other games too, like kickball. They are sturdy, which is great for little boys. I found them to be a bit heavy, but I guess that is better than having them blow away and slide all over the place. My only other disappointment was I had walked over one in na highheel and my heel poked right through the bases creating a hole in it. Other than that, the have held up weel and have no other tears or rips.
