When I last checked, the company did not sell stand-alone pens, so if you lose the pen, you need a new set to have a replacement. Now that we have it, I wish I had gotten it sooner. The click of the little magnetic balls is so satisfying and addicting. Popping them back down is surprisingly soothing.... oh! and the kids love it too! My oldest (8) was forming some of his letter funny, so this is good practice for him. My 5 year old lacks the fine motor skills to write letters on her own, but this is helping her develop them.
