A great little phone for the money
I was looking for a low cost Android phone for my elderly parents to use. I don't like signing up for mobile deals where you pay for the phone over several years. I recently bought a Samsung S9+ for myself and it cost me over ten times the cost of this phone from Ulefone. To be fair, I wasn't expecting to be anywhere near as good as the S9+ but then again my parents wanted simplicity and wouldn't use the full power available on the S9+.It arrives in a nice solid retail box with the phone and accessories all packed neatly inside. As well as the phone you also get a charger, USB charge lead, a warranty card and a small instruction set. Let's point out the negatives first, the charger is a European two pin type so you will need an adapter. The other negative is that the instructions are woefully inadequate. There is small card inside the packaging telling you to remove the tape off the battery before using but gives you no information about actually getting inside the phone to do this. What is not immediately obvious is that the phone has a silicone protector which has to be peeled off first. Then if you look carefully, you will see a little slot on one side of the plastic case backing which you can use to prise off the back. Once inside you can see the battery and a little piece of yellow tape over the battery terminals. Removing this will enable power to the phone. Whilst in the back of the phone you will also find the SIM and microSD card slots. It can take two SIM cards but you do lose the ability of using the microSD when the second SIM is fitted. This is quite common and the same as my S9+.Personally, the microSD card is more important as the onboard storage is only 8Gb with just 4.5Gb free for use. The microSD card can be up to 64Gb in size and can be formatted so as to extend the internal storage. The RAM is a little limiting at 1Gb although it didn't seem to affect the overall performance. The screen resolution is also quite low at 960 x 480 pixels. To compare this phone against the S9+ isn't really fair because of the huge price difference. This phone is ideal for people who need a mobile phone to use as a phone but with the ability of smart features being secondary. The camera is okay but won't set the world on fire and is fine for quick photos while on the move.Overall, this is a great little phone for the money and I'm very pleased with it. Now all I have to do is show my parents how to use it!

In-depth review of Ulefone S1
So I mainly use old iPhones which I bought second-hand because the latest handsets are costing more money than I will ever have in my entire life. Currently, I have an iPhone 5s as my daily driver and wanted a cheap Android to ease myself into the OS and keep as a secondary phone, if it was good enough (if not, at least it was cheap). Therefore, I decided switch to the Ulefone S1 as my daily driver for a few days to have a complete and accurate impression of this device. I will not be comparing this phone to a high-end smartphone because if you want an iPhone or a Galaxy, you will have to just go out and buy one. Instead, I will be reviewing this phone by itself and for the consumer market it was intended for. Inside the box, there is the phone (obviously), a micro USB charging cable, an EU plug (will have to either buy an adaptor or use a UK plug from another device), a black texturised case and instructions. This review will go over all aspects of this phone and at the end, there will be a brief summary of the pros and cons.DESIGN 9/10First of all, I would like to say that I really like the design of this box, despite being unimportant. It is very simplistic which really stood out to me; all black box with just the logo of the brand, the model and an outline of the phone (will include a picture). As for the design of the phone, it weighs 183g and that heft makes it feel unbreakable (like one of those old Nokia phones). It has a metal frame but the back is made of very smooth plastic and it does feel cheap, in all honesty. However, when putting on the texturised case that is included, make it look really good. The case really compliments the phone and protects it from slipping. I have not dropped this phone yet so I do not know whether the case will protect it but so far, so good! Also, the screen-to-body ratio is 74% but it does look a lot more as the bezels are quite thin. Overall, the phone looks modern and well created.DISPLAY 9/10What really stands out on this phone, is the size of the display. It has a massive 5.5 inch IPS display with a 195 pixel per inch density. The display size is enormous and it is a pleasure watching YouTube videos on this. The screen resolution in all honesty is just as good as my iPhone 5s as I barely noticed a difference in the resolution when switching. The screen brightness is average and could be a little better but personally, I always put the brightness on 50% and I never struggled viewing any content, either indoors or outdoors.OS AND SPECS 10/10This device runs Android 8.1 Go. For those who don’t know, Android Go is simply a “lighter” version of Android which started rolling out this year for low-end smartphones. Because Android is quite a “heavy” operating system, having Android Go means that a phone can run just as fast with lower specifications. In addition to Android Go, this phone has a 1.3GHz quad-core 64-bit Mediatek processor and 1GB of RAM. Despite being quite mediocre specs, the operating system, processor and RAM compliment each other very well and work fluidly without experiencing any noticeable lag or stutter. The phone offers 8GB of storage and the operating system takes up only 2.3GB (usually it’s at least 4GB). I currently have 4GB free but you can also include a SD card (this is a MUST if you are planning on using this phone as a primary device). The phone comes with a few Google apps pre-intalled (like Gmail Go, Chrome, Maps Go and YouTube) but thankfully, no bloatwear. This phone offers a smooth and snappy performance, no mater what you are doing.CAMERA 6/10Like the majority of very cheap smartphones, The camera is probably the worst aspect of this phone. The company claims that this phone has a dual rear camera system but, in fact, one of them is fake. This is very common so beware when buying a phone for photography with this “dual-camera system”. The camera takes average pictures when outdoors and under good lighting but indoors the rear camera produces poor results, noise and grain. The front camera is also pretty bad. Nonetheless, this phone is okay for video-calls and the occasional social-media upload.BATTERY 10/10The battery life on this phone is excellent. I am a heavy-user as I spend most of my time either on social media or watching videos and I tend to charge my iPhone at least twice per day. However, the Ulefone has an incredible 3,000mAh removable battery (remove the sticker from the battery before using the first time!) which lasts me the entire day with 20% to spare. It takes me 2 hours to charge from 20% to 90% and that tends to last me the entire day. I cannot seem to find usage time in Settings but I am guessing about 5 full hours of screen on-time. Overall, the battery life is one of the best features.CONNECTIVITY AND EXTRAS 8/10This device has Bluetooth 4.2, charges via Micro USB and has a headphone jack which less and less phones seem to be including. This smartphone supports dual nano SIM which makes it ideal for travelling or one nano SIM and a SD memory card. However, it offers 3G to one of the two SIM cards only. This phone does not have a fingerprint scanner but it does have Face Unlock. Ulefone claims it only takes 0.25s to unlock your phone but for me, it took about 4 seconds and I found that it was much faster and easier using a PIN. Face Unlock is a nice addition which no phone on this price range has but it tends to be a little unreliable and slow.PRICE 10/10Last but not least, let’s not forget that this phone costs ONLY £55.OVERALLI honestly was not expecting much from this phone when purchasing it as I had bought low-end smartphones in the past and they were unbearable to use. However, Android Go seems to give life to low-end device and they feel just as fast and reliable as other more expensive smartphones. I would definitely recommend this phone if you are look for a device under £100 as it is probably the best in this price range! It might not be the best smartphone out there in general, but it is the best smartphone you can get for just £55 and that is why I am giving 5 stars.PROS+Large screen, perfect for videos+Great resolution+Smooth performance with Android Go+Excellent battery life+PRICECONS-Poor camera-Slow face unlock, no fingerprint sensor

good value for money
Used it for almost half a year now. Specs are good - considering the cost. Screen touch sensitivity is not a top notch, but again, considering it is a low cost phone, does the job. Phone became little slower, but after cleaning up memory/apps, seem to have approved.

Viel besser als erhofft. 4 1/2 Sterne
