Good, not great.
I missed out on collecting the series as it came out so I've been eagerly awaiting picking up the collected edition. I finally ordered it and got a chance to sit down and read it earlier this week. I've heard so many good things and high praise so I admit I was expecting a lot. While some people need some time to adjust to Lemire's style of art I can get into it right away. I see a lot of people call it "raw" or "scratchy" which can sometimes be buzz words for poor or bad art. In this case, it actually is "raw" and is perfect for the characters and story being told here. From what I understand the comic book was presented mostly if not all in flip book style while only one chapter in the collected edition is able to utilize that presentation. I don't know whether that made the story more engrossing or distracting but I enjoyed it for the chapter I got to see it in action. While we don't get to know everything about our lead characters we do learn enough to know that they are broken people who are victims of their time, whether by the horror of war or the unforgiving danger of space. What we learn is enough to become engrossed in their life, and their love.I enjoyed the experience but I didn't seem to love it like many others. I really did enjoy the worlds I was taken to but I must admit, I felt a little let down by the ending. I don't know what I was expecting but I expecting more. That might be more a failing on my end rather than the author/artist, however.I didn't find some deeper meaning that many have found, perhaps I'm more obtuse than most, and I liked it quite a bit more than some of the negative reviews I've come across, so maybe I'm just a bit less obtuse than some.I'm not upset I went down this journey and I'll probably go down it again soon someday. Maybe I will find that extra something that many have found and if I do, I'll be better for it

A head trip without the hangover
This is one of those books where the art matches the story and once you begin the journey you can't imagine anyone else at the helm. I dragged my feet reading this as months passed. But once you start this tale it's a great ride and knowing that it ends is the best part. There are times when you want more from the story but that's just yourself getting a little greedy. It's a succinct tale that could easily be adapted into another form of media. It's a good book to pass onto a friend and definitely sets itself apart from most sci-fi in its genre; being unique and familiar enough not to lose itself in the weeds. Pick it up if you need to clear up some headspace for a good time pondering life, love, and second chances.

Interesting premise that never really pays off
Jeff Lemire has an interesting but crude art style that doesn't do full justice to his fairly complex stories. The story being told here gets deep into metaphysics and can't reach its full potential with the rough drawings.

Very cool story
I read the description for this book and was intrigued but wasn't sure about the art style. I'm glad I decided to give it a try anyway. I almost immediately got passed any reservations and was sucked into the world. I love the illustration of flashbacks by changing the background and clothing but leaving the character. It made Nika's and William's torn memories of past, present, and alternate realities seem more realistic as confusing and traumatizing events. If you can set aside a need to have everything explained in the end and it's a very enjoyable read.Side note: it's really cool that at the back of the book there is a translation key of the alien language. I had a good time flipping back through the story and translating the Atabithi dialogue.

Jeff lemire is hands down the best writer in the industry
I love his beautiful watercolor work and amazing use of negative space. A lot of people complain about his art but it’s so unique as gives a sense of calm and then he will flip your world with amazing philosophy and storytelling

Very different, but good!
At first I was not very into the art, but after a couple of pages I got really into it. To me the art captures the emotion of the storyline. The story line is a bit depressing. The human race is fighting to survive a disease that is killing everyone in the universe and there is only about a thousand people left to survive. Reminds me a bit of 'Intersteller'.

Jeff Lemire!
Another amazing comic by Jeff Lemire. I wish the pages were a little more like the slicker pages but other than that ....it's Jeff Lemire! You can't go wrong.

Cool sci-fi concept, but falls short in execution
Pretty interesting concept for the book but the art and some aspects of the story left me wanting. Not bad, but not great either. I normally write more thorough reviews for books, but I'm just not passionate enough about this book to put forth the effort, which is telling of its overall impact.

Beautiful artwork but the storytelling was a bit confusing
Beautiful artwork but the storytelling was a bit confusing, especially with the alien language that needed to be decoded. Not as immediately satisfying as Lemire's other work (Sweet Tooth and the Underwater Welder in particular) but still, worth a look.

Top Ten title for 2014
Lemire isn’t afraid to paint outside the lines, this applies to his storytelling as well. Trillium is a brave work of art, immensely personal and brilliantly illustrated. This love story spans galaxies and centuries: Nika is light years away on the last human colony in the year 3797; William is from London of 1920.Faced with extinction, the last humans in the universe are looking for Trillium, a flower with chemical properties strong enough to immunize them against the Caul, an intelligent space-travelling virus. It is this flower and the natives’ temple that brings Nika and Bill together. They don’t just face the obstacles of space-time; even their family and immediate social circle doubt their sanity. Yet somehow through it all, they meet again and head towards the inevitable and tragic end, the only way their story could’ve ended. This was advertised as “the last love story” or something to that effect. All will become clear when you read the book. Which you should be doing, right now.I really want to tell you more, I want to give you all the details that made me read this book three times in one day but trust me, I’d be doing you a disservice.
