An "I'm Glad I Read This" Book
In the interests of full disclosure, I've known the author since he was knee-high to a grasshopper. So when I learned the book he'd written about his experiences as a rural veterinarian was about to be published, I was thrilled. That is, until the thought struck: What on earth would I say to him if it was awful? What a waste of worry that was! From the first page on, I was hooked; I didn't put it down till I'd reached the index a couple of hours later. The well-scripted vignettes are alternately funny, heart-warming and sweet -- but never saccharine. He is, after all, a working veterinarian; and dealing with the illnesses and injuries of animals (as well their often cantankerous owners) isn't always pretty. This book, in my opinion, is a don't-miss for anyone who loves animals and learning about the foibles of human nature. Rob has said many times that he considers himself lucky to have one of the "world's great jobs" -- and perhaps above all else, that belief comes through loud and clear. Only one question remains: Hey, Doc, when will the sequel be finished?

Wonderful 'tails' to read
I had long ago read the James Herriot novels of a Yorkshire, English vet, and enjoyed them. Perhaps its because Dr. Sharp is a vet living in a more modern time where there are many more medications to help cure animals, and perhaps Dr Sharp is a better writer than "Dr. Herriot" but I enjoyed this book just as much, if not more, than that famous series of books. Dr. Sharp's stories are shorter, to fill just a few minutes with one story, or several stories as you read and forget all about time, engrossed in each short story. I am keeping my copy, and will be ordering more copies as gifts for my dog and cat loving friends.

Bought two copies!
...one to keep, one to give to our local vet - who as it turns out actually interned with Dr. Sharp. If you love animals, it's hard to fathom not loving this book. Dr. Sharp's experiences I'm sure parallel those of many, if not most, mixed practice vet's. The difference is he has a real talent for story-telling. Not everyone does. He captivates from the first page. And if the "Class of 1990" doesn't get to ya'... Seriously, this is a thoroughly enjoyable book that anyone should enjoy.

Great Book!!
I heard Dr. Sharp speak in person and found his book to be as delightful as he was. It is very funny and writtento be enjoyed by all. It is a book you can just sit down and enjoy for a few minutes or and hour because the stories are short but it is hard to put it down once you get started. For lighthearted reading at the end of a hard day, No Dogs in Heaven is the perfect book.

No Dogs In Heaven?
My husband and I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Sharp speak at a Lions Club meeting in December of 2012. We were getting ready to leave for Las Vegas for Christmas, after hearing him speak, I bought the book for my Kindle. It was a wonderful book of short stories. We both read some of the stories while we were traveling. It is just some light reading...which is wonderful while traveling. I would definately recommend this book.

Pure Small Town Charm
On the surface this book describes the days of a small-town vet. But it goes well beyond that to illustrate the ambiance of this country when people and times were more personal, more gracious, and much more in tune with those things that still really matter no matter how "global" we are claimed to have become by the talking heads of the media and government. It will convince the reader that those "better times and people" really haven't disappeared, and that is tremendously Good News.
