## Overview

Phyllanthus fluitans, known as the Red Root Floater, is a fast-growing floating aquarium plant that thrives under intense lighting, turning its leaves a striking deep red. It naturally consumes excess nitrates, improving water quality while providing shade and foraging areas for aquatic life. Ideal for open-top tanks, this low-maintenance plant adds vibrant color and dynamic texture to any freshwater setup.

## Description

Phyllanthus fluitans originates from the desertcart River Basin. Although coming from a family dominated by desert plants, this plant has adapted to become a floating plant in a very humid environment. P. fluitans is currently produced only by one major nursery, Tropica. However, this species is a little more common in the trade due to its fast growth when conditions are good. It sometimes goes by the name red root floater. P. fluitans is not too difficult to grow given enough light and nutrients. Lighting should be intense (shoot for around 3 watts per gallon or more). CO2 is unnecessary. Nitrate and phosphate should be kept above zero (10 ppm or more and 1 ppm or more respectively), as this plant, like most floating plants, prefers rich conditions. Heavy iron and micronutrient dosing is essential for the health of this plant; without enough iron, this plant will fail to thrive. When conditions are good, this floating plant will produce slightly reddish leaves with small white flowers. This small floating plant is very easy to prune, as you simply have to skim off any excess from the water's surface. However, due to its fast growth, the aquarist will have to remove excess plants quite frequently to prevent it from overshadowing plants below it. P. fluitans is most suited to open top tanks where its beautiful foliage and tiny flowers can be most appreciated. The hairy, red root system can add a touch of color to the upper levels of an aquascape as well.

Review: Absolute rubbish. - These arrived in small flat plastic bags. I was dismayed by the smell when I opened the bags. Like bad drains. Due to the smell I placed the contents into a tub of clean water. There were just bare roots and hundreds of detached leaves. There was nothing I could put into the tank if I wanted to. On closer inspection there were dozens of snails in the water and also much to my dismay, at least two different types of maggot squirming around. Gross!! How anyone could send this out is beyond me. I actually have to return this for a refund. What a waste of resources. The bin is where is should go.
Review: They weren't slimy they were perfect - I've bought so many aquarium plants online only to wish I'd saved my money but these were healthy, perfect plants and from now on I'll only buy from this seller. Many many thanks. Sara 🙂

### ⭐ Not worth the money.
*by G***D on 23 April 2023*

Arrived mostly rotting with barely any roots. I tried to separate the ones which looked like they might survive, none of them did. Full of pest snails. I have since bought the same floating plant, in vitro, from my LFS and it has really took off in both my tanks. Avoid buying from this supplier, unless you like pest snails.
