Can this cage be used to re-train a cat to use litterbox?  My 8 year old cat has decided not to use her litter box any more....healthy, no uti.

Cats don’t just “decide” to stop using their litter box. There’s a reason. Perhaps something has changed environmentally and caused stress. Animals cannot vocalize so they tell us in ways we see. Moving a cat into an extremely confined area will only add to its stress and may cause more issues. Look at any changes that happened around the time your cat stopped using litter box...that’s where your solution will be found. 
(I’ve lived with nearly 30 cats during my lifetime)

I have put an extra hammock on the top to one side, a covered litterbox on the floor, and a cube to lay in and on on top of on the litter box to one side of the bottom, and the shelves on the opposite side of the cube going up the side to the top. Screw on lift out bowels work so much better then the hook on metal bowls that kept falling off until I clamped down the hooks to make it tighter. Two larger water bowels and 4 smaller food bowels (metal liftouts) This system has been used to provide housing for 4 females and one smaller male. Everyone gets along fine, and they can move around. This keeps everone safe in the house while I am away and my dog can still see and smell all of his kitties and be comfortable withh them together. He lays at the floor by them while I am away, and as soon as I open it up he checks them as they come out. I did receive the playpen with a broken off, missing top lock. But I  use carabiners on both doors to reasure they stay closed. Typically there is at least two of the girls in it laying around during normal open door hours. The 3 shelves really don't sem like enough for just 2 of the girls to get from top to bottom without causing them to tip out of the metal holders. The playpen works well, and with a modification or two (it's not on the wheels) this system is something that I have gotten complaints on, as well as a request to obtain one for an owner of 2 cats that need someplace to be during the time my coworker is away from their home as well. However, it does take 2 humans to actually put this unit together. One needs to lift and hold the top ( from the front side) while the other can (I did this from the inside) pull up and secure the back. Then it becomes more of a 1 human job from there as you secure the front and hook on the shelves. I hope this is a helpful bit of info. If you are needing to put this together yourself, I would suggest trying to pull open the top and then lay it down on the floor in order to pull open the back. I am only 5' so it seemed much easier with its weight for me to have assistance holding it up because it kept folding on me and I couldnt secure the back because of this.

I see pictures with litter boxes in the enclosure.  Is it a pain to clean the scattered kitty litter? Need space to keep cat during the night.

We use a litter box that opens and is hinged, to keep most of it in, and also to avoid hitting the tray above it. It took some effort to find the right box that’s also easy to clean. We bought two cream colored cat carpet mats that keep the litter in and hide the mess. We alternate these rugs when we shake and then launder them, as it takes the mats a couple of days to air dry. I wish they would make the shelves in a tan color, so the litter dust isn’t so obnoxious, but we cover all with the mat and then cat beds.
