great rock tumbler
trying to decide what rock tumbler to buy can be a bit tricky. This is a great entry model and Lortone quality is top shelf. The one thing to consider is how much rock tumbling you are gonna be doing. Each stage takes about a week, so to go thru all the stages to get to the polished rocks takes roughly a month. If you are trying to get a lot done, you might want to consider the twin barrel model as you can have 1 barrel loaded with one stage and the other with a different stage. Either unit is designed to run for long periods of time and the only maintenance is to place a drop of oil on the roller bar where it goes into the bushings. I do this like once every month or two. The unit is very quiet and the rocks tumbling makes more noise than the motor. Make sure to order the different types of media this needs to do its job. Media is basically the different types of grit it uses at the different stages. I would also recommend ordering a couple different sized sifters to use during the clean and rinse in between media change outs.

A little workhorse!
This is my first experience with anything like this. My tumbler has now been running for a week and I changed to stage two today. I could not believe the difference in the rocks already! So easy to use, sturdy, and great instructions. I’m very happy. Can’t wait to see the end results. UPDATE: Just finished my first set of four grit/ polishing stages (took a month) and I could not be happier with the results. The rocks are gorgeous. On the left: the type of rocks I started with. On the right: finished product. Everyone loves them. They’re so smooth and shiny.

Great 3 lb. Tumbler
Not a lot to say about this product except that it does exactly as described. 3 lb barrel tumbler and quite a simple unit with only the power plug as the on/off. no other switches. Comes with a small manual and an extra belt. I started using this: tumbling my first batch of stones about 4 days ago and so far no breakdown whatsoever. The unit is exceptionally quiet which I like but the motor area runs hot as advertised and expected. No leaks at all.As of now - 5 days after purchase I would buy again, the only thing I would change it that I wish I would have bought the 2 barrel Lortone. That will be my next purchase if all goes well :)

It's running like a champ!
I'm in process of polishing my first batch and my Lortone is running like a champ. Can't wait to see how my rocks turn out in the final stage. When I was a youngster, I had a tumbler and was fascinated with how plain rocks could look so beautiful once tumbled and polished. Now I'm an oldster and just as fascinated with the tumbling process. Each machine may encounter some problems, but so far mine seems to be doing it's job very well. Did I mention the Lortone is made in the USA?

Buy it.
Love my tumbler, use it for jewelry, mostly copper. It work hardens my pieces as well as smooths out any rough edges and cleans it to a high polish.

Too hot to handle
I started using this tumbler about an hour ago. In that time the motor generated so much heat that the glue holding on the rubber feet melted off. The manual does claim that a hot motor is normal, but it doesn't say how hot is normal. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't get so hot that it destroys itself. I also would believe this much heat generation means it's terribly power inefficient.

Diamonds in the rough become... not so rough. :)
Bought this for my wife. Initially, she set it up in the laundry room, and I thought, "Man, this thing is going to be annoying!". It was, however, surprisingly quiet (considering it's tumbling rocks). Four weeks later, my wife had some beautiful polished stones that came from rocks she gathered years ago. Worth every penny I spent on this thing to see the smile on her face.We have since moved it to the garage (cleared some space on the work bench for it). Now we don't hear it at all.My only concern is that the motor seems to run a little on the warm side. Not sure if this is normal or not, but it ran for four weeks solid without an issue, so...

I really like the lid style of this tumbler
The tumbler I received quit working within 4 days, but Amazon helped me return & reorder and the replacement has been working non-stop tumbling glass for about a month without any issues.I really like the lid style of this tumbler. Other tumblers I have require a lot of hand strength and prying off of lids but the thumb screw style of this barrel lid means it's very easy to get the lid on and off without tools, and it's never leaked so much as a single drop of water.
