However, as someone who is preparing for the US Federal Interpreter's written exam, I have been searching high and low for a good advanced grammar reference text. After all, the exam serves to weed out even the best Spanish speakers (native and non) who cannot differentiate between formal grammar and the common errors that have proliferated in even the most educated groups of people in Latin America and Spain. Like the book says, its target audience is someone who is a European Level B2-C2 advanced speaker/student of Spanish. In the US system, I would say this is targeted at someone who has completed either a Bachelor's Degree or is doing/completing a Masters in Spanish. You're someone who has all of the grammar basics down, can read high register Spanish with relative ease, and are fluent or close to fluent in spoken Spanish. Now, you're just looking to polish your Spanish grammatical skills. If you're a beginner, this is a text you will probably want to skip over until you're more advanced in your studies. But once you're in your advanced college classes or preparing to apply for graduate school, definitely add it to your arsenal! It also gives greater understanding and context for native speakers as to why maybe they've been hearing or saying something incorrectly their entire lives. Whether you're a Spanish grammar nerd or need this text to understand the grammatical rules of your native language, this is well worth the investment!
