Works just fine and dandy with Lego Mindstorm, but not legal for FLL
I coach and FLL team, and we needed a color sensor this year for the challenge; however, we learned this is not an official Lego sensor for competition. Even though it has the "Lego" stamp, it's not made by Lego factory. It's does work, but just not for what we needed it for.

Pretty good, could be better
As an avid Mindstorms user, I was quite excited to purchase this sensor. I just bought a Lego color sensor, and I did some comparisons with it.LEGO Color SensorFunctions: Color sensor, light sensor (measure red, green, or blue light), color lampSpeed: Excellent (4 scans/ second)Ambient light sensitivity: sensitiveDistance from/ angle to object being detected: hardly sensitiveColors detectable: 6HiTechnic Color Sensor V2 (this product)Functions: Color sensorSpeed: slow (1 scan/ second)Ambient light sensitivity: not at allDistance from/ angle to object being detected: very sensitiveColors detectable: 17 by default (any number if you can program it based on Red, Green, Blue, and White values)Other notes: NXT-G block allows you to measure the RGB code of an objectI recommend the LEGO sensor in most circumstances. You can position it anywhere near the object being sensed and get accurate readings. If you need to, it can function as a light sensor without a hardware change. Also, for some projects, the indicator lamp function is useful. However, if you have an application where you need very precise color sensitivity, go with HiTechnic. But in the end, I would just get both and use each when needed.LEGO sensor application: a brick sorter that sorts by color (color sensor mode) and on grey scale (light sensor mode).HiTechnic sensor application: a brick sorter that can sort many colors (default) and any shade of them (custom).I will admit that when the NXT 2.0 set came out (I had 1.0) I thought I could just buy this to upgrade. However, the LEGO color sensor has very specific functions that this doesn't.In any case, it's a great product. If you are an NXT 2.0 user already owning a color sensor, this one is a great add-on.
