The Watchmakers's Lathe Ward Goodrich
This is an excellent text on the origins and function of the lathe in general and the watchmaker's lathe in particular. It was written at a time when the lathe was the most expensive and highly prized tool in the watchmakers' workshop. It carries the sense to timelessness in the text. A great read.

Great book for the beginning watchmaker
This book is wonderful for the person who knows the bare minimum about the watchmakers lathe. It gives you a great detailed history of how the modern lathe came about and goes indepth greatly on techniques, making of tooling and dogs, along with tons of other info. If you know nothing about the lathe, this book me seem confusing or down right dull and uninteresting. This book was really meant for the beginner who has the general idea. I enjoyed this book for all the information it gave on alternate tooling techniques. Anyone just starting out in watch or clockmaking should have this book on their shelf!
