My first one came broken so I had to returned it. I immediately got a replacement within a couple of days. Customer service was outstanding. I love the size of the measuring cup, the strainer on top and finally I have an easier way to separate the fat from the broth!

Add me to the many, many people who reported that this product broke immediately. I am so disappointed, first because this product was highly recommended by Cooks Illustrated and second because I grew up using Swingaway products and always thought of them as being of good quality.Update two weeks later: I informed the seller of my damaged item, and they immediately sent me another one. This one seems to be working. I would encourage the manufacturer to come up with a more sturdy design. I've changed my initial rating from 1 to three stars because of this gracious response.Update almost two years later: The replacement is working very well. It can handle boiling stock and top-of-the-rack dishwasher cleaning. I'm changing my review to 5 stars. Excellent value for the price.

I bought this item to help fill canning jars with hot broth or simple syrup while keeping the rims clean I think it'll work well for this. I usually don't give over four stars for simple products however the seller wrapped this so well with bubble wrap and tape before sending it for fulfillment they earn the extra star lol well done.

it broke after only a few uses! I tried gluing the bottom part back on, but it broke again. There is no way to repair this, and I am bummed! The concept is awesome, and when it worked, it worked great! However, there is a design flaw, and it is now useless. I wish I could return it, but unfortunately, that time has passed. By the way, the first two I ordered came broke! This one came in one piece, but sadly, it broke not long after its arrival. I really wish this was made to actually last!!!

This made life much easier after I roasted a turkey and went to make gravy. It does not seem to be all that strong, so I am gentle with it, no dishwasher, After use it is greasy, a nuisance to clean, but not all that hard.When I first tested it with plain water it leaked sometimes, but only at first. It worked fine with the turkey drippings. Glad I bought it.

Works

I have used many fat separators over the years for roasts, turkeys and other meats that produce drippings. The drippings are always used for gravy, Yorkshire Pudding or any other side dishes that are enhanced by drippings. I like to get as much of the fat off as possible and have even refrigerated drippings overnight to maximize separation. I used this separator right after the turkey finished roasting for Christmas. After sitting for a few minutes to allow separation, the fat drained through the bottom exactly as intended and gave the best fat free drippings of any separator I have ever used! The gravy was wonderful! I just checked the leftover gravy in the fridge and there is virtually no fat congealed on the top. I also refrigerated the remaining fat in the separator overnight to see what good drippings were left. Only a thin layer of drippings remain at the bottom (exactly where they should be in a separator) while the fat is firm, golden and drippings free.I haven't washed the separator yet as it still has the fat in it. I will probably have to use a small brush to clean it well, but looking at the design, that should be expected. A fuzzy pipe cleaner might also work. Many good tools require a bit of effort so that would not cause me to downgrade a product. The results were so excellent that a bit of cleaning effort is well worth it.If I find that a problem develops later, I'll re-post as this is so new to me. BUt so far, I love it!!

While making Thanksgiving dinner, my friend saw me use this and loved it, so ordered this one to give her for Christmas. I use mine all the time, not just for gravy, but for soups as well to separate the fat. My gravy and soups are delicious and much healthier thanks to this tool.

Wish I had this simple little inexpensive gizmo years ago! Easy to separate broth from fat. Works as promised.

The box was so damaged and hanging open that it was clearly a return. Plus the actual product itself doesn’t function and appears broken. I imagine this is the reason the previous buyer returned it, but somehow it ended up getting sold to me.

Many separators have a low-slung spout to pour out the good stuff - but it is clumsy and lets quite a lot of fat through. This one allows you to drip gravy out from the centre of the base of the separator which leave the fat sitting on the top. I keep giving mine to admiring friends and buying myself another- always this brand... better than the cuisinart one.
