My son is a reluctant reader (2nd grade) but he love LOVES LOVES these books.This is the first book he wanted to take to read on the bus to school.1) They are short books with short chapters and big pictures on each page, so he isn't overwhelmed by a whole page of words.2) Some kid chapter books have a tight formula for the series (Magic Treehouse anyone?) that the kids and I get tired of. These books aren't like that. Each book picks up the story of Alexander Bopp and his friends in a different way.3) They have just enough grossness and fighting to be edgy enough for 2nd grade boys.4) The drawings are great, the humor is great, the monster concepts are very clever.
