Updating Val Newton's classic Cat People, this supernatural chiller stars scream queen Barbara Shelley as Leonora, a beautiful girl obsessed by the idea that she is heir to an ancestral curse causing her to develop the ferocious, predatory instincts of a leopard. Directed by Upstairs, Downstairs' Alfred Shaughnessy and an early showcase for Shelley's smouldering talent, Cat Girl is presented here in a brand-new transfer from the original film elements in its as-exhibited theatrical aspect ratio. As much a drama of human relationships and mental conflict as supernatural horror, Cat Girl tells the story of the battle for Leonora's sanity by her psychiatrist, Dr Brian Marlowe, with whom prior to his present marriage she was in love. Convinced that Leonora's condition is merely a manifestation of anger and jealousy toward her unfaithful husband, he urges her to enter a sanitarium; but can Leonora hope to escape the curse that has afflicted generations of her family?SPECIAL FEATURES[] Original Theatrical Trailer[] Image Gallery[] Promotional Material PDF

She doesn't believe it at first but becomes convinced going to a psychiatrist who doubts her story until the cool ending. i reco
some have criticized it as a cheap imitation of the 1940's movie but i found it to be an enjoyable little horror picture which moved along quickly. For those who don't know the story,a man tells his niece he is dying and the curse of the family will be transferred to her.She doesn't believe it at first but becomes convinced going to a psychiatrist who doubts her story until the cool ending.i recommend the dvd

The Cat Girl (1957) DVD-R
Pretty good late 50's British horror film. A woman returns to the family home with wastrel gold-digging husband and false friends in tow. Seems the family has a weird history (or psychosis). Her uncle believes they are linked to killer cats, leopards to be precise. Now that he is at the end of his life he wants his niece to take on the family weirdness and she's afraid she's a cat as well. She meets her teenage crush again whom she still has a yen for, a married psychiatrist who thinks he can treat her. After her uncle dies the woman's two-timing husband meets his end while he' dallying with another woman. The niece thinks she killed him so the doctor puts her in a hospital to treat her, then, in the stupidest move a headshrinker ever made he brings her into his house so she can bond with his wife. Of course the woman is dangerously jealous. It all ends up as expected. At this time unavailable on DVD but I got a pretty good DVD-R. Hopefully it will be released on a good quality DVD, along with Shadow of the Cat. Recommended.

So lovely - so dangerous!
This film holds one's attention with interesting twists and character development - very enjoyable. It also raises the question as to the validity of ancient curses - valid or imaginary, the viewer must decide. The Cat Girl is very lovely and innocent; however, because of her bloodline, she is must pay the price for the sins of others.

Barbara Shelley worth the entrance fee
Superior print to the one on "Classic Horror Movies" DVD, though it's rather petty of Network not to include Shadow of the Cat on this.
