Unfortunately Disappointed.
This book was intended as a gift to a very dear friend and family of mine. Upon arrival, the front and back cover of the book was noticeably damaged. On the front cover of the book, it was very obvious that the price sticker had been peeled off leaving a tear mark as seen in the attached photos. What a shame as the front cover is beautifully and artistically rendered. On the back cover were multiple dents and scarf marks. Needless to say, this book is not worthy to give as a gift. I have since bought another book that is in perfect condition. Why don't I return the book? It is a waste of my time. I will donate it. The seller should have known better than to list the book as new.

For civilian and soldier alike
This book is suffused with love. Not only is it a tribute to the one percent of Americans who protect the remaining ninety-nine percent, but also a welcome change from a video-game view of war.

so it's not surprising that I loved Coming Home
I have a soft spot for stories about our men and women in uniform, so it's not surprising that I loved Coming Home.Author/Illustrator Greg Ruth sketches out an almost wordless story of a young boy awaiting the homecoming of a loved one in uniform. When the big day arrives, the young boy's hopes and anticipation feels like a lifetime, as he breathlessly with others who are similarly experiencing that same feeling.Brown's illustrations are spot on, perfectly capturing the sheer exhilaration as those who are waiting, anticipate that moment where loved ones are reunited. Even without words, readers will perfect understand the boy's expressions as he waits for a long separation to end. This book is perfect for young readers from aged three and up, who can easily absorb the story. The drawings also feel rich and warm, and will make readers feel safe and comfortable with what can occasionally be a difficult topic.Bottom line: Coming Home is an exquisite book that beautifully sketches out the hopes, emotions and dreams of every family who has breathlessly awaited the coming home of a loved one in uniform. Ruth's understanding of that moment when loved ones meet again, will absolutely move hearts everywhere.I highly recommend this for young readers everywhere, but especially for young readers who do have family members in service, and may need a bit of reassurance that they will soon be reunited again.

This would be a perfect book for a child who has a parent overseas serving in the armed forces.
In this day an age it seems that more and more children have parents who are actively serving in our armed forces overseas. Granted this has been the case for years and years, but now not only are the fathers headed overseas but more often the mothers too. This story is well written with easy to read language that focuses on just that. When a little boy is at the airport waiting patiently it seems as if he will never find that special person he is waiting for. He sees many other families being reunited, but will he? As the story goes on you see parents welcoming home children, wives with their husbands, children with their dads and moms but what about him? You will have to get to the end of the story for this sweet ending. This would be a perfect book for a child who has a parent overseas serving in the armed forces.

Beautiful example of a homecoming.
A book with very few words, the illustrations do a wonderful job capturing what a homecoming is like: anticipation, anxiety, feeling like your heart is going to burst while waiting to see your loved one after 6, 9, 12, or 15 months. This book makes me cry every time I have read it, in large part because it's not always the father/husband who has to deploy.
