Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns About Bullies

Kids Love Howard!
This book is especially great for use in schools because it emphasizes the importance of kids being brave and letting a teacher or another adult know that they are being bullied. It also paints a clear picture of bullying-that bullying is repeated over time and involves a power imbalance of some kind. This helps young children in particular understand the difference between a situation they might be able to handle on their own and when they need to tell an adult. The publisher's website wedolisten.org has a lot of useful resources as well.

Great resource
Haven't gotten a chance to use it yet but did have both a 1st and 2nd grader review it with me and they really liked it. I think the book addresses how sometimes the strategies don't work and you must consult an adult until someone believes you. Thanks!K-5 School Counselor

Excellent Teaching Tool
I love this book. A fellow teacher encouraged me to use it in my classroom, to address the issue of bullies and how they can't be avoided but that an adult does need to be told when you are bullied. I used it with my pre-k kids and they got the concept of what is a bully and what is not acceptable behavior. Great book!

Good book!
My 7 year old son is being bullied in school and I have been struggling to find a good book to help open the lines of communication. Most bullying books are either too baby-ish for him or are aimed at the drama of girls. This book did a great job explaining what he could do to confront the bully and the step of telling a teacher :)

Good a bully Lesson
I used this with lower grades in an elementary school for a guidance lesson. The children liked the book, and it has a good lesson in the story.

Only book of three with good advice
Of the three books I ordered today this was the ONLY one for a child being bullied that was remotely sound. The only one I'm keeping.

this book helped us identify a sticky situation
we bought this book because we thought our son might be being bullied at school but weren't quite sure. Upon reading this book, my son immediately identified himslef as Howrd Wigglebottom and named the children we suspected of picking on him as bullies. In this respect, the book was very helpful. However, since the bullies were bothering him at recess, all of the children involved are three (my son) to five years old, and the bullying was much less obvioustelling the teacher did not immediately solve the problem. THis was difficult for him to understand since that was not the case in the story.

5yr old wins like it. Not scary. Gets the point across. Starts a good dialogue on the subject of bullies.
