Great Bookf for Techniques
Love the imagery and the instructions are very good. There are several different workshops in the book that you can go right to without having to go through the whole book. The projects are also interesting.

Even for a USA knitter AWESOME!!!
This book has more useful techniques and ideas than anything I've put in my hands in a very very long time!! I was so surprised to find how really good it is. I tend to buy way too many knitting books, but this one was a real keeper. I fell in love with the first sweater in it and then started reading everything else. I just love this book!!! Great job, and wonderful wonderful reference. Better than you tube!

A Great Skill Builder for Intermediate Knitters, Advanced Knitters? Not so Much.
Knitting is more than the pretty pictures and lovely colors. Any knitter who has advanced beyond scarves, shawls and socks (and sometimes even socks) knows that there is a lot of trial and error learning involved and little tricks of technique to be discovered to produce lovely, wearable items, especially in the arenas of lace, cables, double-knitting and color knitting.I ordered Knitting Masterclass hoping to discover advanced techniques that I hadn't either figured out myself or that weren't covered in other specialty books on the techniques listed. I was mildly disappointed by the book. There is nothing earth shattering here and the techniques that are detailed are covered in much more depth in books on the specific techniques mentioned. However, as a go to resource covering several different techniques for the beginning or intermediate knitter who doesn't have an extensive library? I think this book could be an amazing one volume resource.Techniques covered include: Yarn Substitution and not just by weight, but a good description of yarn substitution in cable and lace patterns. This alone might convince me to keep the book. Reading schematics and analyzing them for pattern and size changes and yarn substitution is also covered in detail. These I haven't seen covered in this depth in other books. Then casting on and off and different styles of knitting are covered, including magic cast on and magic loop methods. Cable knitting, including fixing mistakes and the infamous loose stitch at the end of the cable is covered. Lace knitting and fixing mistakes in lace is also covered. However, those with other cable or lace books will find this information and more in technique specific books.Fair Isle knitting is covered, along with a dash of color theory as is shaping and fit. There are many, many great Fair Isle and Color Knitting Resources in terms of books and I considered this the weakest section of the book. Steeking, that fear ridden technique whereby Fair Isle projects can be knit completely in the round and then oversewn and cut is covered and this is a valuable resource as it is a scary technique and while covered elsewhere, I have never quite had the guts to try it. Shaping and Fit is covered in a very detailed but quick and dirty section and for the knitter who doesn't own any of the plethora of books devoted to the engineering of knitted garments, this is a valuable section too. Various types of color knitting, including mosaic and stripes are reviewed as is reversible Double Knitting. Curves in knitting and short rows are covered and variations on Kitchener Grafting are reviewed as well. I did find the variations on Kitchener stitch to be at the Master Level. Seamless, bottom up and top down techniques are conspicuous by their absence. The patterns and projects that illustrate all of these techniques are without exception, bright, attractive and the perfect blend of challenging and skill building. All in all, a great book for one stop shopping on many tricky techniques for the knitter who is advancing from intermediate to advanced knitting. Also great as one stop shopping for a variety of techniques. The knitter still exploring favorite techniques could learn what they like here and buy supplemental technique books as needed for favorite techniques such as lace, cables or advanced color work.A good book, a solid book, a book with some surprises in terms of tricky little techniques but much of the information is covered elsewhere. Advanced knitters with an already extensive library might want to browse the book before buying to see if there is enough new to old ratio to make the purchase worth it. I consider myself a fairly advanced knitter and I found the variations on Kitchener Grafting valuable, as was the detailed yarn substitution theory. The other techniques I have seen covered elsewhere. However, for the person just starting out with the advanced mechanics and engineering of knitting this would be an invaluable one book resource. I think this may be a collection of previous articles and while they are valuable, the book reads like a collection of articles rather than an incorporated, seamless work. And again, pretty projects too.

Extremely helpful book for anyone who wants to refines skills
Very clear on some trickier knitting skills like tubular cast on and off, combination knitting, lace work repairs, slip stitch knitting steeking....and more. Plus patterns to reinforce lessons. I’ve knitted for years but had a lot to learn.

Disappointing
As the other reviewer already noted, this is a nice reference but hardly 'Master classes'. I'll add that there are few charts - even when there should be (lace) and those that are included are so tiny they're almost impossible to see. The print is light, and the font size is 8 or 9 - very difficult to read. I love "Knitter" magazine and had been hoping that this would comparable.

A true knitting course
Couldn't be more pleased with this book. It is just packed with information, lessons, patterns - truly a master course from beginning to end. If it isn't in this book, then in my opinion it isn't necessary to learn.
