Q: Can reasonably handy people install this themselves or do I need to take it to a professional installer?

I did it on my own. You need appropriate tools to remove rear bumper and drill two screws on each of the rear body corners to put the two radar sensors in place. I drilled twice because the first time the bumper touched one of the radar sensors, and it would change the sensor’s angle if installed. I have to move that sensor inside a little bit. You also need connect those lines with turning, reverse signal lights, Acc and ground. By the way, I installed backup camera and parking sensors on my car before, and I am pretty familiar with this type of connection. I also have another car which has BSM as performance reference. Lots of fun, although a little bit challenging for one person DIY. There are Youtube videos on installing similar things. Good luck.
