Good foundation for starting Paleo.
Pros:This is a good foundational book. It gives a good background on the Paleo diet and what early civilizations ate in their diet. The sections on why our modern diets don't work, getting ready, prepping your kitchen, and the recipes are good. They do give some tips on how to find "Paleo friendly" food out and about if you can't be home. The book has a good selection of recipes that fit many different budgets. I have looked at other Paleo books, and reviews of them said they focused on the author selling his/her products. This book is "generic" so it does not do that. It does focus on the do's / don'ts, vitamins, etc.Cons:It is a bit heavy on the "evolution" and "early man." If you don't believe in that it comes across as too much. I just skipped over most of it. Tips that were over the top for me were the suggestions you have a Vitamix blender (these cost upwards of $500 each) and that you pack and carry containers of your own food when you travel. This may work for some, but for a person that travels for a job M-F that doesn't work. I found it a bit out of line when they mention go to the grocery store and get your own food if you know your friends won't have "your type of food" when you go for dinner. I would hope that a person would be gracious enough to speak kindly with their friends first rather than just showing up with a bag full of groceries and saying "I can't eat your food." The book authors are hard core about Paleo, so expect to read "you must" "you should" do this/do that. They are "go all they way" or don't at all when it comes to the Paleo eating life style. I will be incorporating what I can when I can over a period of time.Overall I like the book and got a good foundation about the Paleo diet. I would recommend it for the beginner. My suggestion is to remember the authors have their opinions that may not necessarily reflect those of the reader entirely. So take what you can from the book, the rest with a grain of salt, and do what you can when you can. If you can go all out and cold turkey then do it....if not, don't fret it. I gave it four stars only because of how "pushy" the authors came across in their writing - to me they did anyway. Otherwise, it really is a good book to start out learning about Paleo.

Get This Book NOW & Go Paleo!
Got mine. Easy Weekend Read. Very well organized, written & thought-out. Packed with informational -type nutrition (on nutrition)! I have learned a load about what goes on in my body that I had no idea about. Good science writing on the processes/chemistry, without being over-your-head technical (but enough for the technophiles). Great resource I'm sure I will be using regularly as I start this new life-style...If you are new to Paleo, like I am, I highly recommend this book. Many "Ah Ha!" -moments as you read. It just seems so simple & staring-us-in-the-face now: Eat what you Evolved to eat. Duh. ::Hand > Face:: Pretty clear to see the connections & the misconceptions/misinterpretations when laid-out as they are here. Things are making sense here. The book clearly outlines the ideas behind it, the history of the ideas & their proponents, where the debates & gray areas lie, as well as a healthy amount of studies referenced to either back up Paleo living, or to make you go "Hmmm" about traditional western diets & what is REALLY causing the wide-spread heart disease & diabetes that run rampant today. Stop buying (most)food that comes from boxes & fast food boxes! Eat what is natural, least-processed & most pure. So simple. The food is also GREAT! Tasty & satisfying, but it will take some adjusting & Discipline, especially in the beginning (boy, those bread & cookies look good...), but the book helps by outlining the good/bads, and laying out clear examples, as well as lots of easy recipes. I am still (very)early on in my Paleo journey, but I have already seen positive changes just a couple weeks in as far as digestion, allergies/respiratory & energy levels/hunger. And you can still eat (uncured/gress-fed)Bacon! Need I say more? ;)Get this book and Make The Change!Much thanks to Neely & Jason at paleoplan dot com for their excellent web site, Paleo meal-planning services & this book!

Unfortunately the body (or mind) doesn't come with a manual
Hey, I loved this book and any excuse to eat more meat is a good excuse for me. This is a fad I can sink my teeth into! :) But this whole anti-gluten thing smacks of self delusion IM(less than)HO. I like wheat and wheat products and don't detect any negative effects from it at all. But maybe that's just me.It reminds me though of the phony "War on Women" concocted by the uber-manipulative, lying and cynical Democrat strategists for gullible masses of blind followers to parrot like robots. Or the whole global warming lie invented by and for those same evil control freaks (modern Communists & Totalitarians) just to increase their bank accounts and power over the `common people'. I impute no such motives to these authors and do laud their sincerity in the book, but the gluten phobia thing does make me laugh right at people sometimes. :)So many gullible, neurotic sheeple, so little time....

Easy to Understand
This book does a great job of explaining complex things in a way that is easy to understand. It is a quick read. I've tried a few of the recipes so far and they turned out great. I plan to try more. The beef pot roast recipe is amazing! A lot of the recipes include nightshades, so if you are following an Autoimmune Paleo diet there might only be a handful of recipes for you. That handful of recipes alone is well worth your money. Although I'm sure you can modify some of them and omit the nightshades. It is a great resource and because it explains things so well I have found it helpful in staying motivated to keep eating a clean diet.

Good recipes
The recipes are good and easy to follow or adjust. There is a lot of good reading material to take at face value, or research more yourself. After doing this "lifestyle change" for a while though, I decided that it's too much meat, I don't care what anyone says....that can't be good for you. And I find it's too expensive to source the meat ethically. I'm totally off the paleo wagon. Still, the recipes are great...just not for an every day lifestyle, in my opinion.

Nice idea, poorly thought out.
Gave it away. Read some of it, decided I really wanted to give it a go. Went to the back of the book to look through the list of recommended ingredients to purchase, including the essentials. I started going through the list and wasn't even one third of the way through the alphabet when my online supermarket's shopping basket was already at £400. If just getting started with this diet is going to cost me over £1,000 in groceries, including all the basic cupboard essentials, then it's too rich for my blood.Overcomplicated and convoluted.

Easy read - but i's not in grams or ml
Got this as wanted to look at how hard it would be to do the recipes. I am disappointed there is no pictures of the meals so it's hard to imagine how it should look. Otherwise ti was delivered quick and easy enough to read. I put it's okay due to the lack of pictures plus everything is put into cup sizes, ounces rather than grams and ml.
