Review: The buttons go bad, but so what. . . - I've had at least four of these (maybe six). The left mouse button always goes bad eventually. I suspect that people who dispute this either don't click a lot, or don't use the mouse all that much. If you mainly just browse the internet and read your email, this mouse might last forever for you. Because this mouse it popular with gamers, some users do a *lot* of clicking. In my case, it's programming and Freecell, which means a lot of both clicking and dragging. If you click enough, the left mouse will start to double-click when you single click. You might not notice it if you're just typing text, but it will show up very fast in computer card came like Freecell where a spurious double-click has dramatic and unpleasant results. It also becomes almost impossible to highlight text, because the button won't stay down. These are the same symptom, really. When you press the button down, it will alternately click and unclick because the top of the switch under the button is dented, and though the button is down, the switch may or may not be at any given moment. So, why five stars? Because this is, ergonomically, the best mouse on the planet, it's very reasonably priced, and it has a three-year warranty. Seriously, you need to at least try this mouse. Once, in a period of extreme boredom, I used this mouse to play Freecell for seven straight hours. No discomfort, no carpal tunnel, no ill effects at all as far as my wrist and hand were concerned. I have the mouse sensitivity set at its max. It takes a little getting used to, but I can move the mouse from the beginning to the end of this paragraph by moving my thumb less than half an inch. This makes highlighting text a dream once you get used to it. I use a keyboard drawer under my desk because it keeps me from aggravating my elbow and shoulder. That means the mouse goes on the little pull-out table on the right side of the drawer. When I used a conventional mouse. It kept either making me bang my hand against the keyboard on the left, or falling off the right side of the pad. This mouse never moves. When I reach for it, it's always exactly where I expect it to be. As for the button trouble. I have not had any luck getting the mouse apart to try modifying the microswitch. And you can forget about the solutions suggested by Logitech. If they work, it's only for ten minutes or so. However: I just read a comment here from someone who fixed the problem by putting a piece of note card stock under the left button. It fixed the problem but, understandably, made the button difficult to click. I just tried fixing it with a piece of very thin paper from a cash-register receipt. It worked! The button is a tiny bit harder to press, but it's still pretty sensitive. If the fix doesn't last, I'll just shell out the money for a new one. I often buy two at a time so I'll have a spare to use when the button goes bad -- this is handy when you have to get it replaced under the three-year warranty. Seriously, give this thing a try.
Review: This is my favorite trackball. - I prefer using a track ball verses a standard mouse. My trackball use even goes all the way back to the first computer we had in the 80's with the first Kensington trackball. I have had this wireless Logitech 570 now for a several years. It is so worn that the Logitech logo is gone on the top. The ball pops out easily for cleaning the contacts and air spraying of the optical area. Whatever is on your hands tends to end up collecting in the well- especially since I have cats. Small cat hairs get caught sometimes. And a minimal amount of dust or lint on occasion. Since I prefer to not move my hand around on my desk with a traditional mouse, I don't mind the small effort required to clean out the ball well. It never stops working- it just feels kind of "sticky". The ergonomic handle is comfortable and I can play Minecraft easily (and better) with the M570 because moving and placing items is quicker and the control is excellent. Standard web surfing is convenient with the page forward and back buttons on the top left. It may seem awkward at first to use your thumb, but it isn't hard to adapt. I actually keep a back-up wireless Logitech regular mouse handy for the times when company comes over and they prefer that mouse. The battery lasts a long time and it only takes one AA. The reason I am reviewing today is I am shopping for a new M570. The wireless connectivity has never given me any issues and works very well. I like not having cords on the desk. I could not say how many times this little wheel went around in the well, but I can tell you it was probably several hundred thousand times and is actually still working well. There are 3 ball bearings holding the ball in the track well, and I take a tiny brush now and then to clean around them. Looking at them, they are not worn down even now. If you are in the market for a trackball mouse, I recommend giving this one a try. I really don't have one complaint to share, and want to thank Logitech for the longevity of my M570. I am getting another for my other computer while they are on sale.

**Q: Should I get a new one? I had one of the older wired red ones and that thing was smooth as butter. I've had this newer model for about a year now and it drives me crazy. A: I have this trackball mouse as well as the wired model with the red ball and I have the same problem you describe. I havent been able to get the M570 to track smoothly every since I got it no matter how much cleaning i did. This was annoying for any normal precision work, like placing the cursor between 2 letters. But I discovered that the red ball from the older mouse worked excellently, which suggests that the problem is not dirt but the blue ball. Also the speckled pattern on the blue ball is not as tight as the red, which i think contributes to the M570 jerky motions. So i figured that this issue is intrinsic to the M570 model (more specifically the blue ball) and I've been searching for a used red trackball for some time to replace the blue.

**Q: Does this mouse help hand pain? I have muscle waisting and pain in my hands, and I was thinking of pairing this with a Apple Magic Track pad to help m**
A: I have this mouse and it has helped relieve the wrist and hand/arm/shoulder pain I had when using a regular mouse. However, I did have a bit of pain in my thumb at first, until I got used to using the trackball. As another commenter said, you will use your thumb a lot with this mouse. It will also take a bit to get used to using your thumb, but by the time you get the hang of it, your thumb pain will be gone too. I love it! Plus, I can pair it with my Logitech Wireless Wave Combo Mk550 With Keyboard and Laser Mouse (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Combo-Mk550-Keyboard/dp/B003VAHYNC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1431417569&sr=8-2&keywords=logitech+wireless+k350) that I bought this mouse to replace. **Q: How long does the battery last if you use the mouse 8 hours per day, 5 days a week at work?**
A: My husband and I have each owned 3 of these mice. The only reason we bought new ones is because our cat knocks them off the desk, the ball falls out and it gets a tiny dent/scratch in the ball. Then the mouse doesn't glide as smoothly. Turn the mouse off when you aren't using it. Ive had the batteries last 18 months no problem. I played World of Warcraft with this mouse for 14+ hours a day for weeks and never had a tiny hiccup. Just make sure you take the ball out, take any hair or dirt that builds up on the little sensors, and check the hole in the bottom for any dirt/hair. We use these mice for at least 8 hours every day. The battery is not an inconvenience. Anyone having troubles wither got a faulty mouse, or was using bad batteries. Again, we have had 6 of these mice in the last 13 years and we have NEVER had an issue. They are easy on the wrist/arm/shoulder, they don't take any battery juice to run, and they work beautifully.

**Q: I need to use this device with a Linux system. Does this mouse support "middle-click"? (i.e. works like a 3 button mouse)?**
A: In Ubuntu 16.4, it works exactly like a 3 button mouse is supposed to work in that distribution.  All three buttons and the wheel work as expected, and even the "forward/back" buttons on the extreme left edge page backward and forward through documents or through browser pages, just as they do in windows.

It's interesting because Logitec's own FAQ states unambiguously that this mouse *won't* work in Linux.  That is absolutely false.  In recent distribution of Linux, at least, it works great.

In a way, I works better in Linux than in Windows, in the following sense:  I bought one for my Linux computer at home, and another to use at work with the Windows 7 computer supplied by my employer.  I plugged the receiver into my Linux computer and was fully using the mouse, literally, in 1 SECOND!  It immediately came to life! On Windows 7, I plugged in the receiver and got to watch the "Found new device" dialog pop out of the tray and watch the little blue circle circling round and round the graphic that looks like a tower computer for some 10 minutes before the mouse would work!  :)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Favorite mouse! - updates included

This is my first trackball mouse, and I really like it. I love that it just sits in one spot and I don't have to worry about it sliding around and moving on the screen. I have it hooked up to my desktop, which is hooked up to the TV about 10 feet away. The responsiveness is great, no lag. It does take a little bit to get used to the trackball, and maybe adjusting the responsiveness, but I think it's worth it. The feel is great, and I love the extra side buttons. Overall it's well designed and functions perfectly. 2016 UPDATE: I've had this mouse for over a year now, and it's still my favorite. It's become my main mouse to use with my laptop at home. In fact, I'm going back to buy a second one for my work computer. It's great that it's stationary, so it doesn't need as much room as a regular mouse. I also have less strain on my wrists, since I don't need to move it around. I don't think I've needed to change the battery yet, because I literally just realized that the light on top is a battery indicator. Every once in a while (depending on where I'm using the mouse), it will get resistant or skippy - that just means it needs to be cleaned. Pop out the ball, clean the lint off the 3 sensor points, and pop the ball back in! That always fixes any responsiveness issues I face. I will say (for when others use your computer) those who are not used to this mouse will either love it or hate it. As I stated, earlier, there's a learning curve, and people who didn't sign up for it won't like that curve. Almost everyone who uses my mouse is super annoyed by it...I think one person loved it and wants to get her own, understanding that it's great once you're used to the trackball. But everyone else is quite confused by why I would want it... So really the only negative is other people's reactions to being forced to use it with my computer. 2020 UPDATE: The original mouse I bought finally kicked the bucket mid-2019, which was about 4 years after purchase. Its responsiveness was going downhill, mainly having issues with the left click. So I replaced it with the same thing, no regrets. I have one at work, and one at home, both for laptops. I will likely be purchasing a third one this year when I buy a gaming desktop. Basically I'm just to the point where every computer I own needs this mouse. Now that I have more than one of these, there's the real potential to mix them up (also a problem with owning multiple of any Logitech mouse receivers, cause those guys look the same even if the mouses don't). What I do to avoid any issues on that front, is put a drop of nail polish on the mouse and the receiver, so they match, and I know if I have the right ones together. (Ex- Found a receiver with a drop of holo green nail polish? I know my work computer's mouse has a green drop, so I must have left it at home and need to take it back to the office. Problem solved.) As long as the polish is put somewhere you don't touch much (or at all), it'll last a long time.
