I bought this for a Sports Studies module and it was crucial to understand a few key points. Richard Holt is a name you definitely should have in your references if you're studying Sport in History.

The best history of sport book you can get, great for a level students and beyond. As a teacher I wouldn't be without it

I felt the information in this book could have been much better organised. It was well written for a book giving information (so many read as if they have lifted chunks out of the thesis they wrote), but would have benefitted from better editing. the information about periods and about sports & leisure activities seemed scattered about, rather than following themes. It was partially chronological but individual sports were expanded in different sections.
