nice fitovers but spectral performance not quite as described
Cocoons describes their Low Vision glasses as having "contrast enhancing filters designed specifically for the low vision patient". The four lens colors in this series are non-polarized. I bought the Large 'Pilot' glasses with Orange lenses because the Cocoons literature says this Orange lens tint "Blocks 100% of blue light and all visible light up to 520nm". Exactly what I wanted & needed. See the spectral chart I included in my review. When they arrived I was pleased to see the deep orange lens color. But the moment I put them on, I could see right away these aren't fully 'blue blocking' lenses. Looking outdoors, all blue colors are much dimmer but still visible. All blue LEDs (from green-blue to mid-blue to violet-blue) are visible. Even looking at the spectrum projected by the sun shining through a prism, the blue to violet region is faint but still visible. True 'blue blocking' lenses (such as Blu Blockers, Uvex SCT Orange, and even Smith & Wesson Magnum 3G Orange) attenuate practically all the mid-blue to violet end of the visual spectrum. These Orange Cocoons attenuate those wavelengths to a large extent, but not completely. I don't know if the glasses I got are an anomaly (not up to spec) or if this is the intended spectral performance. That being said, this orange lens tint is very good for fishing/boating and skiing...anywhere you want to protect your eyes from large amounts of blue or white light. But these are not a good choice for driving because these aren't designed for good color perception. They have 34% overall light transmission, so they are a bit brighter than most regular sunglasses. For this reason, they can also be used indoors to help block out most blue light in the 1 or 2 hours before sleep, but the 3 other orange glasses I mentioned above are better for this specific purpose - if you don't need the fitover feature. These can be worn by themselves but since they are fitovers, they won't be particularly comfortable used that way. But used over top of prescription glasses, they fit comfortably - even over my largest pair. They also do a good job of blocking out stray light from the periphery. But as the other reviews point out, these Large Pilot glasses are indeed large. The Aviator style is even a bit larger still. The frames are solidly built - thicker than cheaper fitovers. Cocoons describes the frame as "ballistic nylon memory frame" - they are hard plastic but have enough flexibility to survive being run over by a car according to the Cocoons promotional video. The 'FLEX2FIT' earpieces can be bent down or up to adjust to different head sizes, and will hold its shape.

great sunglasses for many purposes
I first heard about Cocoons in a product blurb in a gun magazine. The article was touting them for use as protective glasses while shooting. I need to wear bifocals, and protective eyeglasses purchased at the local hardware store are just too uncomfortable and tend to fog up when worn over my glasses. These Cocoons are lightweight, fit very well over my glasses, and really do enhance my vision when I wear them. The have wire inside the arms which allows you to adjust them for a perfect fit. They are wrap around sunglasses, so they provide protection from the side, too. I was so pleased with them I bought two more pair to keep in my vehicles when I need to wear sunglasses.Cocoons arrive well-packaged in a nice zippered pouch. The pouch has both a loop and a large clip that allow you to wear the pouch on your belt or secure it onto a ring (for example on a backpack). The main problem with the pouch is it only zippers open at one end, and it is challenging to remove the glasses or put them in the pouch without scratching them on the zipper. A full-length zipper or a velcro closure on the pouch would have been far more useful. They also come with a soft cleaning cloth. The Pilot size glasses are quite big. You will look a little bit like Elvis in Vegas or Elton John while wearing them. If you can get past that look, though, you will be happy with them. If you check out the Cocoons web site online you will find they have a size chart that will help you select the correct version to fit over your glasses and the type of protection you want.Cocoons would be useful for many purposes including eye protection while shooting, using power tools, riding a motorcycle, or skiing; for eye protection against the sun's rays; for enhanced vision while driving. They are expensive - prices range from $29.95 to $49.95 - but if you want a comfortable way to wear sunglasses over your eyeglasses, or simply want a good wrap around pair of sunglasses, they are a nice value. I paid $29.95 each for mine and am quite happy with them.

I thought these sunglasses were darker. I have bought some that are a darker Amber color elsewhere. These make glare brighter. Not at all what I wanted.

Blue Light, a Killer Ray!
I developed cataract in my right eye, then came other complications with it. One of them is blue lights that pierce my eye like a needle causing pains. I used computer a lot and remembered a special filtered glass for computer use. I selected one with 100% blocking of blue light. No more pain and ended up using it all day outside and inside with computer and HDTVs. No more pain!!!!

Glare-free
I was skeptical. But I am driving again. I have macular edema and they really do cut the glare almost completely.
