If possible, I drive stainless steel screws into the hardened rot into the fresh wood underneath, leaving the screw head and part of the screw out to give the epoxy more to adhere to and provide a stronger repair. Review: Good product, has it's uses. - I actually like this stuff for filling "happy accidents" in paint grade projects. I will note that what I have is very soft and easy to mix the two parts in your hand. I suggest to the reviewers that are saying the product is dry, crumbly, difficult to mix. etc that they have bad product and should return it. This stuff, when right, is easy to combine and easy to place. I seriously don't recommend replacing huge sections of rotted wood with it though, the cost is prohibitive for that. Saw out the bad lumber and replace it. Use this stuff to conceal the joints, screw holes and the like. If you happen to drill a hole in the wrong place, this product works great to make that go away. It does cure rather slow, so don't expect 5 minute epoxy. And I have had stuff on the shelf after opening it for many years and it's still good. Absolutely amazing! I say if it's kept cool and dry it could easily last 4 to 5 years After opening. **Q: I’m repairing a bench that’s carved bears. we unfortunately left it outside in a building. the feet on one was rotted. can that be fixed with this pro** A: Absolutely. Knowing to remove all spongy or rotted wood. If not possible use the consolidator which essentially solidifies the remnants. Then apply the two part product. I have had good success with their products. Good luck - the bears need some new feet. **Q: at what temperature can it be used?** A: I would not want to use it below 40 degrees F. It cures with heat it generates and works much faster when the surrounding temperature is high, say 70 and over. At higher temperatures, it will cure and harden in a day or so. At lower temperatures, it can take several days to get hard enough to sand. I have used a hair dryer on it when it is cold to speed cure. Of course the working time decreases as the surrounding temperature increases, so I mix very small amounts, say two tables spoons at a time when it is hot outside. **Q: Can this be used without the abatron part structural epoxy wood hardener and consolidant resin prior if there's no water damage?** A: You can use the part A and part B without using the consolidant if the wood is not soft or rotted. You must use A and B together as there is a chemical reaction between the two that makes the product harden. It is slightly more expensive than the "wannabees" at the big bix stores, but its worth the money. It's easy to apply, to build up layers, and when dry, to shape by sanding. If you have an eye for detail, you won't be able to detect your repair. It takes paint beautifully and is recommended for historic structures.
