Fabulous book if u need it!
Just got diagnosed with thyroid cancer and going through iodine free diet at the moment. Next time ur at the store, try to find an item other than fresh fruits and veggies and fresh butcher cut meats that has no salt. FDA does not require manufacturers to distinguish iodine from non iodine containing salt. So, ur screwed. This book walks u through many options from soups to dinners to snacks and desserts. Expertly Laid out and do informative. I’m surviving while getting my iodine levels in range for upcoming therapy. Worth every penny!

Excellent for anyone who needs help
I bought this book to get some ideas when my brain is foggy from being hypothyroidal. But then a friend borrowed it so she could prepare some meals for HER friend who had to undergo renewed tests. That friend is not a cook, and there lies the value of this book.Anyone who uses prefab foods and has no idea how to prepare meals from scratch will be in trouble when suddenly faced with a low iodine diet. This book helps to get some bearings and eat nutritious and mostly very tasty meals that even a spouse who is not a kitchen genie can prepare fairly easily.Pricey, as are all specialty books that don't go into mass printing, but definitely worth the money for anyone who needs the help. Think what you last spent at MacDonald's...

perfect
I was put on a low iodine diet that lasted about 6 weeks. This was the best investment for recipes. I found so many dishes to make that were tasty on this bland diet

Very thorough book for Thyroid Cancer Patients!!
I received low iodine instructions from my Endo prior to radioactive iodine treatment however this book is WAY more thorough and gives much more detail. I would HIGHLY recommend it for someone going through Thyroid Cancer treatments. You don't want to mess up and accidentally consume iodine prior to RIT. If you follow the instructions of this book, you won't get it wrong!

A must buy - Greatly expands low-iodine diet options
I bought this for a family member who is undergoing her second low-iodine diet protocol. The hospital provided links to online recipe resources for the first protocol, which were very limited and left this family member weak, feeling calorically and nutritionally depleted, and very discouraged. I think the diet was worse than the radiation side-effects and isolation. This cookbook, although not perfect, provides many more options and creative ideas for creating meals beyond the typical plain foods addressed by online resources. There are some recipes that are not low-iodine approved, so beware, i.e. turkey, rhubarb, chicken livers, etc. The biggest plus of this book is recipes for baked goods - muffins, breads, etc. Best money I've spent helping this family member through thyroid radiation treatment. It is a must buy!!

Just What I Needed
This is my second round of radioactive iodine therapy for cancer, and this book has really made the diet prior a lot more bearable. My first time, of going on the diet, I just used a recipe book I downloaded from the web, but my doctor recommended this one and it had much more variety and not nearly as restrictive as the previous recipes I used last time.Don't get me wrong the diet still gets old after awhile, but this makes it a lot easier to deal with, with more choices. If you're having to do the low iodine diet thing, this is the book to get.

Very helpful!
This is a great resource for LID. Gives a wide variety of good recipes. I've tried several and my whole family enjoyed them as well. The only thing is that for some I was unable to try because of not being able to find some of the salt free ingredients. Where I live the stores don't carry a whole lot. Got to be creative and plan ahead but I highly recommend this cookbook!

Not a good option unless salt free versions of pre-made tomato sauce etc are available to you
I bought this hoping for good recipes for my husband's low iodine diet prior to RAI treatment. I was generally disappointed to find that many recipes required salt free versions of pre-made sauces, pastes etc. If those were available in Canada (we live in Toronto) I wouldn't really have needed this sort of book. Although it did give me a couple of ideas that I could work with but I definitely found other free online resources to be better. If I could have given it 2.5 stars I would have but not willing to round up to 3 stars.
