I bought this book because my daughter is a stage manager and will be graduating from college this spring. I wanted a book that I could read so I could understand better what her career entails. And then I wanted to give her the book hoping it would give her some insight that she may not have thought of, did not learn in school, and could use during job interviews. When I first started reading it, I thought I made a mistake because it seems rather elementary. But, as I read more, it gave me a good picture of what a stage manager does. Then, it got a little technical for me. However, I gave it to my daughter and she loves it. It confirmed some things for her that she had questions about and gave her some good insight. It is easy to read. It is a good book for stage managers at the early part of their career, or for family members of stage managers to understand the profession.

Just got hired as a stage manager and I am a complete novice I only worked as an assistant. This book wasgreat for all levels stage management.

This handbook is a must read for anyone involved in the process of making or teaching theater. It offers a practical step by step guide of how to make theater exceptional through the art and science of stage management. It is clearly written and would improve the skills of anyone aspiring to be a stage manager. This book would be helpful in the classroom or for anyone who loves the theater and admires how and why it works!

This book lives up to its name. It is a great "survival guide" for the beginning stage manager. It simplifies all aspects and gives steps to accomplish the most difficult ones. I like that it includes new media and their uses by the stage manager. I felt like the author was sitting talking to me as I read it and that helped me to understand the concepts. I highly recommend this book.

Very through very technical. A lot of info to compress.

If this is an interest you aspire towards I absolutely recommend this handbook. Mary Ellen Allison is a master at her craft! Stage Managers must have this book.

A good resource for studying the stage.

Gave this as a college graduation gift to a drama major with an interest in the technical aspects of theatrical production. Further, am myself a graduate of a similar BFA program with a major in stage-directing. Both giver and receiver found this book to be an excellent "Guide" for those with back-stage ambitions.

Was easy to understand and covered all the aspects to help a novice, useful whether doing drama for local club or wanting to going in to main stream
