For their third studio album, The Dodge Brothers returned to Active Music on the South Coast where they recorded fifteen tracks in May and June of 2018. After the stripped-down ethos of The Sun Set, Drive Train presents a more ambitious cinematic landscape, with songs ranging from tender ballads to ragged rockabilly via piratical folk-tunes and drunken lullabies. Arrangements range from the single vocal and guitar of 'Waiting for Angels' to a battlefield of cannons and bagpipes on 'When I'm Gone'. Alongside fourteen original compositions, Drive Train also includes an arrangement of 'Oh Death', a longstanding Dodge Brothers live favourite. Guest musicians on DriveTrain include composer/TV presenter Neil Brand, who appears on 'Blaze', a tune developed while accompanying the silent film Hell's Hinges. Multi-instrumentalist Henry Priestman (The Yachts, The Christians) also appears on 'When I'm Gone'. DriveTrain was engineered by Martin Condon at Active Music, and produced by Aly Hirji.
