Better than expected from other reviews
I bought this book before I had seen the AHS review. Had I seen it, I probably would not have bought the book.I agree with their reviewers concern about sbout the restoration methods the book suggests.I believe the book still has real value if you expect to work on English watches. The value is in the take down photographs. It is the only refference I know which has detailed take down photos so yuo know what you are getting into. The book may have additional value in showing what it recommends and learning to identify his techniques to avoid buying such "restorations". The book is very reasonably priced. Within its limits it is well worth its cost.

Bravo
Excellent book. The author is not overly-enamoured with his own words, so his sentences and style and blessedly brief and to the point. His main focus is conveying information to the reader in a very readable and enjoyable form.

What type of depth or detail.......?
I really like the depth of the pocket watch repair books byDonald de Carle. Not totally what I expected with this book.It had information on FUSSEE movements....which seemed to be ok.But, I do not know if I expected that information or not.So, I move on.

Excellent
It has certainly helped; I've managed to rebuild quite a few fusees with this thing. The only thing that is lacking is a better trouble-shooting guide; - how to get a watch in beat, how to fab up or convert parts, and in the history section, the evolution of the style of the verge, (ie when did certain pillar types become common, certain styles of piercings etc.), were any parts standardized and to what extent , and how to locate or manufacture spares. The companion book on Verges is good too; but, also lacking in the same ways as this one. Definitely recommend these books for the person starting out, great primers.

Practical read
For those learning the basics of watch repair, it is good to begin training on a pocket watch. I found the book to be a nice light read, to what could be an eclectic topic of study. The real photos of watches, showing their movements was helpful.
