Excellent instrument
The first time I scrolled through Amazon to look for an ocarina for myself I wasn't impressed so I ended up purchasing none. This ocarina was actually exactly what I wanted and was looking for , I am a violist and was searching for other instruments to play. Which turned out to be the ocarina and the shinobue, I have always heard the soft yet majestic songs. This ocarina is definitely a beauty itself , you can really tell it was made by hard working people and not just slapped together and called it and instrument. The ocarina does have a smell and taste to it though but I offered out a way to get rid of by simply airing it out as a user in the questions section suggested. The sound the ocarina is as and deep just as I have expected , it's very smooth and sturdy , I especially like the heaviness of it which makes it easier to get a grip on it. It comes with a bag and a loop which you can put on your wrist or around your neck. I like the color as well especially when you put it in the sunlight it looks spectacular.

Holy Wow! Well Tuned and Pleasantly Pitched.
Holy wow! This is an amazing ocarina. I too got a Zelda replica ocarina as my first ocarina. After watching some tutorial videos I was warned that Zelda replica ocarinas are poor instruments. The arrival of this ocarina is definitive proof of that. First off, the Zelda ocarina claims to be a Tenor but my tuner shows that it's actually an Alto. The Zelda one plays the first few notes on key with poor pitch and falls apart on higher notes despite any breathing and head tilt techniques you may employ. This ocarina is perfectly tuned to the advertised octave. Higher notes are more difficult to hit on key but with practice on the breathing techniques you can hit the note correctly with this ocarina while the Zelda one will make you feel ashamed to hit those notes no matter what. This thing really has a lively sound without being overtly loud like my first ocarina. While I'm new to music the final differences are easily to distinguish even for a novice to the ocarina. This is an excellent choice for a first ocarina. No doubts. Some reviewers mentioned breaking. I have to say that I feel like my ocarina was poorly packed. It was only in a padded envelope. However, despite my feelings towards the packing the ocarina itself did survive delivery. It also feels lighter than the Zelda ocarina.I have no complaints on the smell. In fact, I can't smell anything at all. However, mine wasn't shipped in a box so maybe it was able to air out that way? I don't know. I just can't say I can smell or taste smoke on this instrument but a lot of people have complained so keep it in mind anyways.I'm very proud of this purchase and I'm very pleased with it. I already sound like a better musician and the only thing that really changed is the instrument.I still love my Zelda ocarina but the Dragon Rythem (sic) is the one I'll play in front of people to show off. By the way, it's 7.5" wide and not 6.5" as advertised.

Beautiful quality! A worthy buy
I purchased this as my first ocarina after searching all over. The shipping was fast and nothing came damage. The new ocarina itself is simply flawless, to be honest the pictures do not do it justice. Plus it sounds amazing! Only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because there is a faint earthy odor from the kiln. But to be honest it is so faint I barely notice, I'm sure it will fade over time. Don't let that one flaw stop you from buying this! It's perfect for any beginner to professional. ^^

Yea it's okay for a starter
Well, you get what you pay for. It looks and feels nice and it comes with a semi okay protective case. Though it absorbed tons of moisture and when that happens it won't play as well. Being what it is it has a good tune when played while it's "dry" once its wet or full of moisture it's hard to play and you end up blowing harder to get a louder and proper noise which results in more moisture.

Don't waste your money on this fake ocarina.
First of all this is not a professional ocarina!Second. It sounds terrible!Third. It came with a scratch on the back part.Forth. I just play it twice and the mouthpiece got broken. If you're looking for a good quality ocarina avoid this piece of crap.I'M SO DISAPPOINTED!

Love Love Love
Fabulous instrument. Great timbre, pitch, tuning. Easy to play. If you play any woodwind, the ocarina is not too different in its fingerings. This is a very high quality and beautiful instrument. Makes a great gift for a friend, or yourself. The instruction booklet comes in foreign writing but you can still learn the fingerings from it. It's eye pleasing all around and the carry case that comes with it is great quality. It does smell heavily of burnt clay, but that fades after the first week. The more you leave it out of its case, the quicker I imagine that would dissipate. I may buy from this seller again.

Strange
You can smell and taste the paint as you breathe, and the higher notes sound off key. Looks nice, and sounds good in lower octaves.

Being the Zelda fan that I am, I decided to buy this ocarina based on the good reviews. I already play the flute so I thought it wouldn't be too difficult to learn to make a sound on it (which its not). The challenge lies in actually practicing the different fingerings to produce the different notes, just like learning any other instrument. I have looked on YouTube and I saw that people make beautiful music (search STL Ocarina). But obviously to get to that state of professionalism one has to practice A LOT.Regarding this ocarina itself, it is beautiful and has a weight to it. It is NOT a toy (though I'm not sure if there are actual people who would look into this price range for a toy) and can break if dropped. I think the sound is wonderful, not airy at all, though actual ocarina players might be able to tell you if it stays in tune as it should or not.Overall I am very happy with it and plan to continue practicing.
