I don't get the hype
Spoiler: This book has a girl who wants to skin seals and hunt like her dad, but stays has to stay home in the igloo. She tries to sew like mom, then tries to carve geese out of stone like her dad, but is not good at any of them and gets frustrated. She goes outside and plays in the snow making snow angels, but then a blizzard comes and she rushes home worried her dad will get lost or die. Then she wakes up and he is back and she unloads his sled with mom. When he wakes up he says her snow angles / geese guided him home. That is all that happens. I found the story to be bland and not endearing in any way. I did not feel connected to the characters. I picked up a book titled A Walk on the Tundra by Rebecca Hainnu. I feel this book was a better choice. It dealt with learning from our elders and valuing the time they are still with us. I would choose A Walk on the Tundra any day over Missuk's Snow Geese.
