Product Description Big Boy Locomotive From the Manufacturer The American Big Boys are some of the longest and largest steam locomotives ever built anywhere in the world, capable of hauling a 3,600 ton train. The 25 Big Boy locomotives were built in 2 groups. The first group, called the Class 1, was built from 1941. The second, Class 2, was built in 1944. Most Big Boys were retired from service in 1961.

**Q: I accidentally ripped several of the fragile decals of the kit, can someone inform me If I can aquire spares from the company or a different seller?**
A: Yes you can,There are a number of different decal companies you can go to. Check out Model Railroader Mag.

**Q: Would this model be possible for a 7 year old to build, with adult assistance? He's very interested in the technical aspect of steam engines.**
A: No.  Perhaps by an experienced adult with 7 year old supervision!  I, too, am interested in technical aspects of steam locomotives, but this kit, though technically accurate, does not adequately explain what the various components do, or how they relate to each other.  Better to do research on steam locomotives on the internet before trying to assemble the kit if you want to know what the pieces are supposed to represent.

**Q: is this ho gauge**
A: It is HO scale but it has no engine... it's just a model. Just like the model cars that you assemble and put in a display case.

**Q: Does this model come with instruction ?**
A: yes. There are complete step by step instructions with the model kit.

This model has a lot of detail work. Wheel assemblies that will turn if done correctly. There are linkage and wheel links that require a lot of attention. Painting is not a big issue. An older guy like me didn't have enough patience but it is turning out pretty good. If you buy, just don't expect a fast job if you want a good model when done.

Great looking model, minus a few details as noted in previous reviews. I'm an HO train enthusiast and bought this because I didn't want to spend $500 for a working model. It looks great on the tracks of my 12' x 6' layout.The model went together well. Most of the instructions were accurate (the tender's linkage pin is depicted upside down in figures 38 and 40). To begin, I shot every part with flat black plastic spray paint. I painted the wheel rims, firebox, smoke box, headlight, linkage rods, cosmetic lines, and a couple handrails with metallic silver. I painted the bell with metallic gold. I painted the control valves and tender taillight red. Final assembly went fast using quick setting thick CA. Finally, I applied the decals.In closing, this is a great looking, easy to assemble display model.

I just received this model and having put a Con Cor(Desktop) model (no longer in production)of this together I note that it is the same model by both manufacturers. As Revell/Monogram were once unified I reason this is why the Monogram model is the same also. They are all well made and can be snap fit although I suggest you glue them in place or over the years small parts are going to separate.
