All six episodes from the second series of the British sitcom starring Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi as an elderly gay couple. Freddie Thornhill (McKellen) is a former actor who mostly performed bit parts, though he has a tendency to exaggerate about the success of his career. His partner of almost 50 years is Stuart Bixby (Jacobi), whose mother remains unaware of her son's sexuality. The pair spend their time jibing each other and playing host to guests such as their friend Violet (Frances de la Tour) and their young neighbour Ash (Iwan Rheon). In this series, Ash introduces the group to his new girlfriend Jess (Georgia King), Violet's wealthy sister Lillian (Celia Imrie) turns up for a surprise visit and Freddie and Stuart join an expensive gym. The episodes are: 'Sister', 'Gym', 'Ballroom', 'Stag Do', 'Flatmates' and 'Wedding'.

What a wonderful Series
I have just recently rediscovered this series of Vicious and I absolutely Love the characters. They play off one another so well. I just love Ian McKellen, Derek Jakobi, Frances De la Tour, and Iwan Rheon. You really get to know the characters so well and the writing of the script is outlandish. Two thumbs up! (Not two fingers).

Improved second run
The second run benifits from an increased budget, with location filming opening up the storys somewhat [such as the hilarious 'avioding people sequence' in episode 4] and some good guest stars. This aspect is somewhat hit and miss with some being brillent [Celia Imrie, Alexandra Roach], and some being wasted in random cameos [George Layton, Michael Cochrane].The characters feel more developed than the first series, which helps the performaces. Oddly, despite having two thespian legends as the leads, Marica Warren steels the show as the hilariously muddled Penelope [Asked about Ash's crowded appartment 'Its like living in a pair of underpants']. The best episode is no.1 for me, with the characters pretending to be other people to fool Celia Imrie [Penelope's maid business is worth watching alone], but the best moment is probably in episode 5 as we see a flashback of McKellen and Jacobi in there youth with the actors doing spot on impressions. The final episode wraps things up well with the running cake gag. A downside is, probably more than the first, the writing mistaking vulgarity for wit. Overall, it's an improvement on the first one.

As good as comedy gets
As bitchy, hilarious and brilliantly acted as the first series. Frances De La Tour and Marcia Warren are the ones who really are the funniest characters in this series though. Derek Jacobi and Ian McKellen play a caustic gay couple so seem to live to hate each other! Well done and very true to real life!

Vicious, yes, but so funny.
I thought series 1 was great. And it is. But this series surpasses it completely. The plots are great, and the humour is brilliant. The two main characters go together so well, and the facial expressions have you laughing before a word is spoken. The rest of the cast aren't far behind either. And whoever called it " Vicious " knew what they were about. If you want perfect English humour, go no further. You've found it.

When this was first shown on tv I loved the setting
When this was first shown on tv I loved the setting. If I had that type of place to live I would be more than happy. Great series but be aware and I did complain to BBFC this 12 get dvd has a lot of "F" words in which I do not think is acceptable,, it is if it is acceptable for 12 year olds to use this language.

A deceptively clever sitcom
A deceptively clever sitcom; Stuart and Freddie's rumbustious interplay disguise a rich mix of emotion, drama, farce all brought together with Gary Janetti's great script. As the show develops an international audience I do hope we get to see a third series of Vicious; I'd like to see Stuart kindly treat Freddie to a trip to New York assisted by his late mother's will, only to be upstaged by Freddie who lands the role of an extra on Broadway.
