Broody Devil: Nashville Devils, Book 3

I cannot get enough of Melissa Ivers’ writing. Her humor is refreshing and pleasantly witty. Anyone who writes in details like a goalie who has full blown conversations with the goal is probably just the right amount of crazy to invent entire worlds of people. She blends light humor and emotions together seamlessly to have your pulling for her characters and invested in the story. She makes readers care about what happens and hang on the hope for the characters to pull their heads from their rear ends and grab love with both hands. This book was no different. While our hero may not be the himbo that Linc and Tag have been, his gruffness is definitely sexy. The way she writes the issues with him and his family, you’re fighting the urge to pull him in to a hug the duration of the book. You fall in love with Lucy through his eyes, even if he is too stubborn to admit that’s what he feels. You fall for Rhett’s protective and possessiveness, and his animalistic need for Lucy. She really makes you a part of this world, and THAT is key to a five star read. Book 3 in the Nashville Devils series is actually one I read in May, but reread again in series order last night for the sake of my Instagram and blog reviews (and maybe because I’m ADHD and didn’t fully remember everything). Broody Devil is Lucy and Rhett’s story. We as readers meet Lucy in the first book, and Rhett at the very end of the second. Rhett is a surly, broody (hence the title) jerk. Or at least on the surface. He really has a big heart with a serious savior complex. After growing up with an alcoholic abusive father, where Rhett made sure to take the brunt of the abuse to spare his younger siblings, Rhett has really started to believe he is the disappointment and failure that his father thinks he is, despite his success on the ice. Events from his personal life spilled over into his professional life which ended in him beating the skates off his teammate, resulting in his trade to the Devils. He views the trade as punishment, because he refuses to say why he pummeled the golden boy of the L.A. Stars. After fights with his teammates, a naked incident with some ladies of questionable morals, and a slew of other mishaps (all within his first 30 days as a Devil), he finds himself at the mercy of our fierce (and very pink) Lucy. As we’ve seen in the last two books, Lucy is an intelligent, independent, badass in her own right. We know from her sister Elle’s book, Untamed Devil, that Lucy forged her own path, despite her father’s expectations and attempts at controlling her. Her parents cut her off and Lucy had to couch surf at her friends’ houses until she had been able to save up and got a job in Nashville, and the rest, as they say, is history. She informs big, bad Rhett that he has two options: clean up his image, or get sent back down to the minors, and possibly even kicked out of the sport all together. Of course, Rhett takes that about as well as you’d expect. He jets off to Vegas the first chance he gets, where Lucy has no choice but to follow. She finds our stubborn man in a sticky strip joint, because of course she does. He promptly challenges her to a drink, and next thing you know, they’re waking up with wedding bands on and not much else. Can these two convince the world their accidental marriage is real to save both their jobs? Or is this “fake marriage” a lot more real than it seems? Grab Broody Devil by Melissa Ivers and find out.

Sports romance at its finest. Cute quick read with decent characters. I enjoyed the writing and will most likely read more by this author.

Y’all…I loved this book so much! Even being sick did not slow me down reading this book. That’s how much I loved it! Everything from the story, to the characters, to their banter was exactly what I wanted and needed out of this book. I’ve loved Lucy’s character from the first time that we were introduced to her. She’s independent, fierce, and d*mn good at her job. Now I will admit that I originally wanted to see her with a certain Devil’s owner, but boy oh boy am I glad that she ended up with Rhett. Lucy is seriously the perfect sunshine to Rhett’s grumpy. Not to sound cheesy or anything, but Lucy brought light into Rhett’s life when he needed it the most. She was exactly what he needed, even if things didn’t start in the most traditional way. Speaking of my dear broody boy Rhett, this book could not have been better titled. Now I will be the first to admit that I have a soft spot for the a**hole alpha in books, so it’s no surprise that I was interested in Rhett from the beginning, but he still had to win me over. But he had already started to wiggle his way into my heart by the end of chapter 8 and by the time we get to chapter 18 I’m a goner and Rhett has completely won my heart. What this man has dealt with in his past and what he continues to deal with, it’s no wonder he is the way he is. I just wanted to climb him like a spider monkey and then wrap myself around him life a blanket and not let go until everything was all better. I think…I think Rhett may be my favorite Devil. Shhhhh, don’t tell the other guys because I still love them too, but Rhett holds a special place in my heart. In all honesty Ivers has yet to write a book that I haven’t loved, so I went into this one fully expecting to love every minute of it, and I was not disappointed. So get comfy and prepare for some heart tugging emotion, actual laugh out loud moments, and some seriously hot and steamy scenes.

Overall I really liked this book. It read easy. Character development was good. But there were things that kept making me go “why”. Like when the parents came to basically move in with the newlyweds with a 10 minute warning with no explanation. And then only randomly mention them a few time after until they need to leave. I get it. There needed a reason to be in a forced prox scenario but come on. They only seem to talk out loud getting to know each other when they are around people that can hear them instead of the hours and hours of alone time they have. And the ending proposal after he degraded her and hadn’t spoken after ????? Those are just a few things but overall I did like reading it. I love series that you get invested in kore then just the main characters and you really get that here.

What happens in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas and let's just say I would not mind waking up with Mr. Broody as a husband! The fake couple goes through ups and downs that test the rules of their relationship and forces them to view it in a different way. Lucy is the ultimate ball busting firecracker and Rhett is not your typical bad boy. He has a heart of gold and will do anything to protect those he loves including pushing Lucy away. Will he succeed and keep the bad boy persona or finally let someone in? This book is a great quick read, funny, sweet with just enough spice and a perfect happy ending (don't forget to read on after the ending to get the bonus scene!). It hooked me fast and I just couldn't put it down!

Spice - sweet and not totally vanilla 👀 Romance. Angst. Oh my goodness, no notes. 10/10. The perfect enemies to lovers.

When I read the first two books in the Nashville Devils series, I fell in love with the fun and wild players on the team. The books were lighthearted and entertaining and I was excited about Broody Devil. What I did not expect was for my feelings to be completely shattered, my heart filled and ripped apart and put back together all at the same time. Melissa Ivers basically went all out with this story and delivered something so wonderful, I need more people to read this masterpiece. When we first met Lucy Hurst in book one, I fell in love with her. She was sassy, covered in pink and all round bada**. To be able to wrangle an entire team of hockey players is no easy task, but Lucy does it like a boss. Her friendship with Jazz was special and her connection to Gordon was intriguing. And like almost everyone else, I thought that’s what book three would be about—and I love that Melissa acknowledges that in this book as well—but what we got was so much better. Lucy is so incredible. Her passion for the work she does, how headstrong she is through everything. We know a little about her family drama and history thanks to meeting Elle in book two; so to see this incredibly strong woman in her own book was a treat. I admire Lucy for breaking away from what everyone wanted her to do to carve her own path. I loved how she stood her ground even when everything else was possibly crumbling around her. Plus, I love how she owns the colour pink with pride and looks good doing it. While I definitely thought we were getting a Lucy/Gordon romance, it’s clear that the only person who could have handled Lucy Hurst is Rhett Remington. My god. Rhett joins the ranks of book boyfriends because he is the kind of broody, wounded and grumpy hero that I love. With a tragic and abusive past, Rhett’s kept to himself everywhere he goes. A huge fight with a former teammate sends him to Nashville where he’s one strike away from losing any hope of playing hockey again. Rhett is temperamental, aggressive and broody as all get out. He knows that he needs to get more comfortable with his teammates, but his defence mechanism really stops him from getting too close. It’s only when Lucy steps into his life that he starts to thaw a little. But even then, it’s not an easy task. He’s a tough one to break and I loved him so much. This is the kind of grumpy x sunshine romance I like, where the hero is just constantly grumpy and the heroine is the complete opposite. But through it all, she’s the only one that can make him crack a smile or do something different. Rhett and Lucy’s shotgun wedding turned marriage of convenience story is sexy in every way. The attraction is there from the start and there’s no denying that they want each other, but with rules in place to protect them from making a big mistake, their relationship isn’t as easy as they’d like. But they make it work. Watching these two slowly get to know each other, but having Rhett stop Lucy at every turn from digging into his past was both exciting and frustrating. Rhett’s need to protect himself and everyone else around him was commendable and I admired how strong they were in the face of their feelings for each other. While I have no love for Lucy’s father, I do appreciate them showing up to push these two together in the hottest and most beautiful way possible. I mean…the steam in this book is HOT. But it’s also so deep, all the puns intended. Sex between Lucy and Rhett is about scratching an itch, but mostly, it’s about how Rhett expresses his feelings for Lucy. Every touch, kiss and minute they’re together is so intense because of the way they feel. And let’s not even get started on the wild things they did, or where they did it or the fact that Lucy let Rhett be the first man to try new things with her. Because woooie *fans self* I’m still warm all over just thinking about those scenes. I’ve also got so much love for the Devils and for how annoyingly persistent they are. I loved Tag and Lincoln in their own books and I’m really curious to see where Foster’s story goes, but I just love these guys so much! For them, it’s about so much more than just a sport, it’s about a brotherhood and I absolutely loved their need to bring Rhett into that circle even if he wants nothing to do with all of them. But that’s what makes this friendship and bromance so interesting. At the end of the day, Broody Devil is about so much more than the love and sex between Rhett and Lucy. It’s a story about being kind to yourself, a story about accepting help and giving yourself a chance to be happy. It’s about closure, leaving the toxicity in the past and moving forward with unconditional love. Rhett’s journey to accepting his truth—that he deserves better than his father—is such an incredible part of this story. I am so glad that I discovered Melissa Ivers and her books, because I am now obsessed with the Devils and their journey to finding their happily ever afters!

Damn… this book… Honestly.. this is one of my favourite reads of the year so far and probably ever. Melissa Ivers does what she does best, but I feel like even she excelled her usual excellent standards with this book. It’s hands down my favourite Devils book in the series so far. Rhett and Lucy find themselves accidentally married after a night in Vegas. This mysterious catalyst (or is it fate?!) launches them down the path of having to fake their marriage for reasons I’ll let you discover by reading. Rhett lives up to the book title perfectly. Broody, moody, carrying around baggage upon baggage, but he also has a heart of gold, is wicked as sin, dominant, possessive in all the best ways. I couldn’t help but fall head over heals for him. He made me hurt so bad with things he was dealing with, and I was so there to witness his evolution through this book. Lucy was a strong, likeable heroine. Usually for me, the heroines don’t factor into my love of a book as much as the heroes (yeah I know.. so sue me) but I loved her. She wasn’t afraid to go toe to toe with Rhett and she was absolutely just what he needed. Together the have SO much tension and heat, their chemistry was just undeniable, and seeing them come together (no pun intended) was the stuff of dreams! Another big thing I love about sports romance done right is the fact that you get a whole cast of supporting characters because of the teammates. This was another major tick in my love of this book. We got to hang out with Linc and Tag again, and got to see a lot more of Foster who was absolutely hilarious. Their banter was just one of my favourite things! This book just hit every note for me. It had chemistry, love, laughs, it breaks your heart and puts it back together in the way only Melissa can. I honestly loved reading every second of this and couldn’t put it down. I cannot wait for book 4 after that epilogue too!! Highly recommended!

While I loved the other two devils… this is the one I was waiting for. Rhett came in at the end of book two throwing his BDE around the room and I was here for it. I’ve loved Lucy from the moment she was introduced into the series. She is a force to be reckon with while rocking hot pink all day everyday. Rhett has his defensives up when he is traded to a new trade. Having the reputation of being a bad boy has everyone on edge for what he could do next. The last thing they all expected though was his trip to Vegas to end up with him marrying Lucy. What’s worse is that either one of them remembers the events that lead them to say “I do”. I’m a moment of panic, they decide to go along with it in the public eye to avoid further scandal but they aren’t ready for what happens next.. Accidental marriage/enemies to lovers is tropes that I love to end and man did Melissa deliver a heck of a story with these two. I loved being able to dig into both characters to find out their past and understand them more. The urge to binge read this story was real and I honestly couldn’t put it down. The steamy moments were addicting, the humour made me laugh out loud and the deep moments had me tearing up.
