From Publishers Weekly Prolific romance author Lough (Beautiful Bandit) continues the Lone Star Legends series set in late–19th-century Texas. Nurse Levee O'Reilly's physician husband, Liam, is killed by bandits robbing the stagecoach the couple is riding to Mexico to open a medical clinic. Levee, who has also suffered two miscarriages, begins life again in the small border town of Eagle Pass, teaching school and catching the eye of rancher Dan Neville, one of the large Neville clan. Dan's limp is only the tip of a backstory that makes the rancher feel unworthy of Levee, one of the first women in the country to obtain a nursing degree. Romantic tension is sustained through a long series of complications, including a killer tornado and a long cattle drive. Lough's fans will likely not mind that this is a predictable tale. (Jan.) A Bostonian lady tames the wild west
It's 100% western. Eastern Nurse Levee survives the murderous robbery of the stage. The new widow turns to a temp teaching job which leads her to the Neville family and their southwest Texas Lazy N Ranch. Specifically to cousin Dan, a young man with a limp, and scars on body, heart, and soul. Romance `twixt Levee and Dan is about as tranquil as a tornado or rustler attack, both of which occur. Action enough for any western book lover. Love draws last for the ladies. A fun western read.Loree Lough is a prolific author and adds character to her protagonists as they realistically struggle with lack of faith, God's intervention, and good vs. evil. Her characters are not goody two-shoes. They have faults like most of us, real human shortcomings, even in 1888. Lough's characters are cowboys and cowgirls, but some to which we can all relate. I like that. This is book 2 in a 3-part "Lone Star Legends Series." The Lazy N ranch is the series link and is recommended to guys and gals, from any state. Adventurous reading for those who like a lot of action with a bit of romance.

Satisfying read! I enjoyed every moment!
In Maverick Heart, the second installment in the Lone Star Legends series, Loree Lough brings us back to Eagle Pass, Texas. It's 1888, and Loree invites us to join her in a "rousing Wild-West adventure," complete with bandits, rustlers, cattle drives, tornadoes, and so much more!Loree has an excellent knack for creating characters that truly come to life. You really get the sense that you know them, and you care about them. I was left feeling like I'd want to join the Nevilles for supper, or sit a spell on the porch with some lemonade. The dialogue is so well done, and I love the wit and humor that Loree has laced throughout the book.I appreciate the fact that Levee O'Reilly was such a strong woman, in addition to a strong woman of faith. She was faced with adversity, but no matter what situation she was in, she rose to the occasion. She's strong, capable, resourceful, and calm under pressure. She could certainly hold her own! With her perseverance, faithfulness, strong work ethic, willingness to serve others, and her dependence on God, I found her to be the type of woman that I would look up to in real life.If you're looking for a well written, satisfying, memorable story, look no further! I enjoyed every moment that I spent immersed in the pages of Maverick Heart! There was never a dull moment, and each page brought plenty of action, adventure, and romantic tension between Dan and Levee. The story never slowed down, and definitely kept my interest from start to finish! I closed the book with a smile on my face, and an eagerness to read book three in this fantastic series! Unbridled Hope, book three, is scheduled to release on July 5, 2011.

MAVERICK HEART
MAVERICK HEART by Loree Lough is pleasant but predictable.Nurse Levee O'Reilly, along with her husband, leave Boston for Mexico where they plan to set-up a medical clinic. When her husband is killed in route, Levee finds herself alone in the small Texas town of Eagle Pass. Though, becoming a school teacher is not what she had planned for her future, she soon falls in love with her students and her new hometown. After months of being in Eagle Pass, she has a chance meeting with rancher, Daniel Neville. Not wanting to acknowledge her feelings for Daniel, Levee throws all her time into her classroom and her students.Daniel Neville has convinced himself that bachelorhood is how he intends to spend his life. Taking care of his family's ranch and breeding horses is what he dedicates his time to. But, when he meets Levee, his heart is reopened to the possibilities of love. Self-conscious of a limp sustained in a stampede, and still blaming himself for the death of his sister, Daniel doesn't feel deserving of Levee's attention, but can't get her off his mind.Though I enjoyed MAVERICK HEART, I am really growing tired of novels that insist on keeping the hero and heroine at arm's length the entire book. I know that the climax of a romance book should be when these two characters finally come together, I just get tired of the constant self-deprecating monologues we have to endure as the hero and heroine continue to explain why it is they are so undeserving of the person they are falling in love with. Other than that, MAVERICK HEART was a comfortable read.Book provided for review purposes.

Maverick Heart
I loved the story of Levee, it seemed that while she had to endure tragedy, God placed her exactly where she needed to be. Coping with the brutal death of her husband Liam, she is penniless when she winds up in Eagle Pass. Because there are no jobs available for a nurse, she takes the job of teacher, and finds that she loves it. When she meets Dan Neville, she feels an attraction for him, she fights her feelings, as for Dan, due to issues that he carries from the past he feels as if he is unworthy of someone like Levee. Thus begins a slow building love story that will keep you engaged from the first pages. This book was full of action, I enjoyed watching Levee become a part of the town, she really found a home there, and a true sense of belonging. From stagecoach robberies, Christmas pagents, tornado's,an influenza outbreak, delivering babies, and a cattle drive this book is never boring. I really enjoyed the touching scene where Willie, brings her a dog for Christmas, I loved reading about Bashful! The secondary characters in the story were interesting as well, I was so happy when Matilda finally found her true love, it was so sad that it ended so tragically.Even though this is the second book in the Lone Star Legends series it can easily be read as a stand alone work, I didn't read the first book and had no problems becoming immersed in the little town of Eagle Pass, I really enjoyed my visit and can't wait to go back!
