Buy this book while you can! Outstanding in every way!
Buy it, buy it, buy it! Once this one is out of print, it is virtually guaranteed to go through the roof monetarily on the secondary market. If you're interested in the German soldier in the late-war period, this is an AMAZING piece of work. It's huge, it's heavy, it's printed on outstanding quality paper, it would be hard to make this book much better. The information is extraordinarily well researched, and I have hundreds of books on WWII, and I'd say a good 95% of these photos I'd never seen before. Each photo is documented as to when it was taken and by whom, and it's laid out in day-by-day order to bring you through the battle of Arnheim. While so many books focus on Hohenstauffen and their role in the battle, this book graphically shows what an extremely diverse and downright motley assortment of troops were scrapped together to oppose Market Garden. I had no idea there were actually Kriegsmarine soldiers actively participating in the battle until this book - honestly, when's the last time you saw great detailed photos of Kriegsmarine sailors outfitted with helmets and combat gear engaged in house-to-house fighting? There are great photos of Stug III's, some nice pics of Panthers, and loads of fascinating detail shots of the soldiers themselves. Some of the photos show graphically what poor condition the German armor was in, and those pics are fascinating. Yes, there are some British prisoner photos, but not a disproportionate amount of them, and these photos themselves are fascinating because it shows the downright seemingly casual atmosphere that looked to exist between the German soldiers and the British airborne troops - they're sharing cigarettes, smoking pipes, chatting, British troops are walking around casually unescorted mixed in with SS troopers almost like they were part of the group! The movies just don't portray things that way.Great photos, great book, can't recommend it highly enough. The photos were all taken by KB who were assigned to combat units during the battle, so you actually get a very strong sense of what it was like to be there, on the streets, day-by-day, as the battle unfolded. This is a rare perspective indeed and it's concept was simply brilliant. Sorry to ramble, but this book impressed me. Again, buy it before they're out of print, you will not regret this one!

This is how you do it!
Harlan Glenn knows military history, photography, art,and style. KAMPFRAUM ARNHEIM is beyond amazing! First of all, it is a large photo book of never-before-published photos of the German fighting men, uniforms and equipment, in war and leisure.Since the photos are huge and clear, you can really see the details. These aren't propaganda photos for the news media back home; these are raw, unstaged glimpses of how things were at Arnheim. What amazed me were photos of recently captured Brits being marched, some with smiles on their faces! German soldiers using captured US weapons and transporting American POWs in an American jeep!KAMPFRAUM ARNHEIM is reader friendly. I hate reading text. I prefer to see photos and let the photos do the "talking." Author Glenn accomodates people like me by arranging, in chronological order, photos which walks you through that period of Operation Market Garden. Each photo is a story in itself. But Glenn goes beyond. In some cases, the identities and personal stories of the guys in the photo are revealed. When I look at a guy in the photo, I would like to know: Who was he, what did he do, and did he make it out alive?Harlan Glenn is a true forensic historian, which sets him apart from the "armchair" historian. He has gone to the area, talked with surviving veterans, got his hands and shoes dirty, and through his efforts, brought closure to families.KAMPFRAUM ARNHEIM will fascinate those collecting Waffen SS militaria, reinactors, historians, and those interested in the German side of Operation Market Garden. If you have seen the movie A BRIDGE TOO FAR, thisbook will put that movie into proper and truthful historical perspective. The movie was pure Hollywood; Glenn's book is pure historical research and accurate. It is a documentary in book form. You can spend hours here.Harlan Glenn's KAMPFRAUM ARNHEIM delivers!

Awesom photos and captions
It's like you're there and the photos could have been taken yesterday. They are big, the book is big and worth every cent. The captions are as essentials as the photos to explain what is going on and it goes all the way to even give you the name and rank of the captured paras. It tells you who the German war correspondents are (kriegsberichter, KB) which took the photos - there are 8 of the KB'sThe book starts with an introduction and synopsis of the battle and is divided in eight chapters from September 19 to September 28. Presented in chronolocical order, the photos are as I said earlier, accompanied by detailed captions which include dates, location & name of the war correspondent. This is a unique in-dept photograpic documentation of the German ground forces & the Allied Airborne that is awesome. I have seen a couple of photos before but much smaller and/or of worse quality and some without date or location. Do yourself a favor and buy this book.

Battle ground Arnhem
If you consider the price p kilo, it is a very economic buy, but the contents of this hefty book is without a doubt very interesting. Most of the pictures are well known but the size of each and every one of them, adds a special "feel" to this book. Immaculate printing shows details which were not seen before. As if it was yesterday, the pictures take you through the battle day by day, until its inevitable end.One small drawback; on some pictures interesting information in the accompanying text is missing, as well as some streets on the Oosterbeek maps are left out.All in all, a very well designed book which adds up to all books so far published about operation Market Garden

Glad I got it when it was deeply discounted.
It's a BIG book. It's as wide as it is tall & wont fit in most of my bookcases. This part of the war in NWE is not normally my area of interest, but the book is still worth a look. The picture quality is mostly very good. Until this book, there wasn't much available (that I know of) other than the 2 Concord books. Pictures are very small in those books, so yeah, it was a good purchase I think..

Excellent pho graphic referrence
I considered buying this when it was first published but thought the initial price was too much.Amazon were offering the book with a considerable discount, I am happy I bought it.The book is a feast of excellent photos of the main Arnhem battle taken by the main German war correspondence present. If you can get the book at a discount it is well worth buying, it is possibly worth the initial cover price to some but not me.

Arnhem 1944
This book is a wonderfully visual and useful account of the bitter fighting in and around Arnhem in September 1944. The large format photo prints takes you right into the heart of the build up and subsequent action, but this time from the German side. A great reference work for military historians and military modellers alike. Highly recommended.
